continuation of a summer to remember <3
this is long so have fun reading :)A year had passed since that unforgettable summer at Camp Cedar Ridge. Taylor and Travis had managed to stay in touch, exchanging texts, phone calls, and late night video-chats as often as they could. In those conversations, they relived their memories by the lake, the quiet talks under the stars, and their first, tentative kiss. The distance between New York City and Travis's small town was over 300 miles, but in their hearts, they were always together.
Still, life was busy. Taylor was now a junior in high school, and her music had become more than just a hobby; it was her passion, her dream, her future. She had begun sending out her songs to prestigious recording studios and music schools, spending long hours in her room perfecting every lyric, every melody, hoping to create something special- something that felt like her.
Meanwhile Travis was caught up in his own whirlwind. As a senior, he was focused on finishing high school strong while also thinking about his next steps- maybe a gap year to travel or maybe college nearby.
They'd promised each other they'd meet again. They'd both re-enrolled at Camp Cedar Ridge, this time as counselors, ready to relive the magic of that summer that changed them both. And so, when June rolled around, they were both filled with anticipation, nerves, and excitement, counting down the days until they'd see each other again.
Taylor felt her heart pound as the bus wound his way up the familiar dirt road, framed by tall pine trees that swayed gently in the breeze. Camp Cedar Ridge hadn't changed much since last year. The same weathered cabins peeked out from the greenery, the same blue lake sparkled in the sun, and the same camp banner flapped in the wind, welcoming them back. But for Taylor, everything felt different. She wasn't the same girl anymore she'd been last year- closed off, reluctant, and unwilling to make new memories. This time, she was filled with hope. She was here for him.
Taylor clutched her notebook to her chest, the pages filled with her new lyrics: mostly romantic lines about the last summer. About Travis. She had kept one page empty though, waiting for him.
As the girl stepped out of the bus, her eyes darted out, searching for a familiar face. Her stomach twisted in anticipation. She didn't see him right away, and a pang of worry hit her- what if he wasn't coming? What if something had changed? Taylor had waited so long for this moment, dreaming about it, replaying it in her mind over and over again.
Then, she spotted him.
Travis was leaning against the trunk of an old oak tree, his face lit up with that easy smile she remembered so well. He looked just like she remembered- sun kissed skin, his hair a bit longer now, still as handsome, maybe even better. He wore a faded green camp shirt, and his eyes- those deep brown eyes that had stared into hers the last night by the lake- were locked on her.
"Taylor!" He called out, breaking into a jog to meet her.
Taylor felt her feet move before she even realized it. She ran to him, dropping her notebook, and threw her arms around his neck. The world seemed to disappear around them. The familiar scent of pine mixed with the faint smell of the lake filled her nose, and she breathed it in, savoring the moment.
"I missed you," she whispered, feeling a smile break across her face.
"I missed you too," he replied, his voice warm and sincere. He pulled back slightly, looking her over. "You look... different. Good different."She laughed, a soft, breathy sound. "So do you. I mean, a little. Maybe more grown-up?"
Travis grinned. "I guess a year can do that to a guy."That stood there for a moment, just smiling at each other, the camp bustling around them as new campers arrived and counselors called out greetings. For them, it was like time had stopped, and they were the only two people in the world.
