Dinner was full of chatter as Alex talked to Robert about sports, but one thing plagued his mind the entire time, Charlie wasn't there at the table. She had come down for to collect her plate, but said she had studying to do and left. Robert seemed to be surprised by that but said nothing just smiled and nodded, his expression saddened but he soon smiled at Alex returning to their conversation.
When Alex lay in his new bed, taking in the empty blue room he stared at the white roof, his thoughts wandering to what had happened today. He felt stupid for worrying that morning, he liked Robert and so far Robert seemed to like him. Robert was an adult and seemed to be wise but he was childish, loving a bit of fun here and there. Alex noticed that there was a sadness though, when Robert sat for a time his eyes would glaze over as though his mind was far away. Thoughts of the family ran through his head as sleep began to take over.
During the night Alex woke up his mouth dry and his throat sore, he coughed slowly turning the nightlight on as he sat up. I'm not in the mansion, I completely forgot that I have to have a drink of water during the night, oh geez. Pulling a hoodie on over his naked chest he fixed his long pyjama trousers, before slowly stumbling to the door. Placing a foot out into the empty dark hall, he looked around to see if anyone was up. Continuing he stepped into the hall only to stop as the floor boards squeaked under his feet. Cursing he continued slowly, placing each foot down gently to try and not make a sound, each time failing miserably when the floor board would answer to the pressure with creak or groan. With each step his muscles tensed and he silently winced, why can't I not just be ninja for once! With a couple of wobbly steps he sighed in relief when he got down the stairs, out of hearing range. Slowly, relaxing, he slumped into the kitchen, cursing when he realised he didn't know where the glasses where.
"Second one along, top shelf," sounded a smooth but tired voice. Alex jumped and swirled around in surprise, glad that he didn't let the yelp that threatened to escape when he saw Charlie, he sighed again. She was sitting in the stool he sat in when he first arrived, her long tanned legs crossed in pyjama short and her slim body in an oversized shirt, a tired smile on her face.
"I'm impressed. You where very stealthy but... You didn't need to be, Dad sleeps like a rock and well... I'm used to noise." She said her eyes drooping as she yawned. She was shivering, her body and head swaying with tiredness.
"What are you doing up?" He asked, following her directions and retrieving a glass, before getting the water from the fridge and pouring it. Taking a sip he watched her rub her eyes with the heels of her hands.
"Same reason you are," she answered simply as she rested her head on her hand. Alex looked at her skeptically, she was lying and he knew it. Firstly her hair was too perfect for her to have slept then wakened again, secondly she doesn't have a glass and there are no glasses at the sink, and thirdly the only way she would have had a drink was if she washed the glass and put it away and she's way too tired for that, unless she drank straight from the carton but that's a definite no.
"You're lying," he said causing her to smirk, she shook her head laughing although it was humourless. She sat her head back on her hand staring at him once again, her blue going deep into his brown.
"Your not just looks... I'm sorry but, I can't-"
"You don't have too," he cut her off pouring the water down the drain before putting the cup in the sink. Turning back around he saw her staring at him her eyes showing confusion.
"Everyone has secrets. I have my own, I wouldn't divulge them to just anyone. I understand." He said standing in front of her before taking off his hoodie and wrapping it around her shivering body. She stared at him, putting a smirk on his face as she wasn't staring at his face, but his chest and stomach. Quickly she stood surprising him, as usually majority of the girls at the gym couldn't stop staring when he took his shirt off. He stood there confused, she raised an eyebrow at him standing very close, even a head smaller than him she was threatening.
"Just cause you're eye candy doesn't mean you have the upper hand, Alex." She said poking his chest making him move to the side. He stared at her as she went to leave, but before she did she swirled round her blonde hair flicking elegantly in the air.
"Two can play at that game," she said before she left, her hips swaying sassily along with her hair. Alex just stared after her confused and shocked, a shiver racked his body breaking him from his trance, he looked down realising that he gave Charlie his hoodie. What's with girls and hoodies? Slowly he made his way up the stairs to his room again, throwing himself on the bed he fell asleep listening to the light sloshing of the water outside.
