Breakfast was served in the hours of lunch, they all talked, laughed and ate, the waves lulling them into a relaxed state as they enjoyed each other's company. Once done they cleaned up, putting the Barbecue out with a bucket of water. Charlie immediately grabbed her board but she also picked up the other before turning to Alex.
"Here," she said forcing the board in his hand, at first he laughed but when he saw her smirk he realised she wasn't joking.
"What?! You're serious!?" He said as she grabbed his arm dragging him in the water. Hopping up he got on the board with little difficulty, as Charlie got on her own and began explaining what to do using her hands to demonstrate. Of course he listened for his own good, but watching her with that glint in her eye was mesmerising. He had never seen someone so in love with something in his life.
As the sun slowly went down the sky was painted red, sprinkling the water with said colour. Of course Alex still hadn't mastered the art of standing, but he wasn't one to give up easily. After several attempts he slowly but surely began to stand causing Charlie to cheer, but her voice faded as the feeling of euphoria took over him. He watched the water curl up and over him, each droplet twinkling in the light like millions of stars. "Wow," he whispered as he ran a hand through the wave, his reflection shimmering in the wall of water. For a moment he was in pure bliss, nothing but freedom and him. It didn't last though, as the wave ended his balance did too, he yelped before hitting the water.
Alex walked out of the water, board under arm as Charlie ran at him cheering. Stabbing the board down Charlie launched herself at him, wrapping her arms around his neck he picked her up and spun round, laughing as he did so. Set her down on the ground he watched her laugh fade into a blush.
"That was incredibly quick, I'm impressed!" Robert said as he patted Alex shoulder, Alex looked to a blushing Charlie who nodded in agreement, looking down at the sand.
"You were great," she mumbled causing Alex to smirk, but his smirk faltered when she looked up at him still blushing. Wow she's so cute!
Slowly she hugged him again, her fingers massaging his shoulder muscles making him shiver and moan slightly, but as her lips grazed his neck he gasped.
"I got you," she whispered in his ear causing him to shiver yet again, even though he could have kicked himself for falling into her trap. Slowly she let go brushing her finger tips along his skin, before leaving, hips swinging joined with a wink. God she's good!
Everything was cleared up again and put on the boat, Charlie and Alex racing one another as they did so. Tying up the boat at the small wooden dock out side the house, they unloaded before getting ready for bed. Alex lay for a while smiling up at the roof still feeling the high from the wave. No wonder she loves it so much, I would do it all the time if I could. I gotta teach Bren!
Alex was close to drifting off when he heard the floor squeaking. Slowly he got up and opened the door grabbing Charlie whilst covering her mouth.
"What are you doing? We have school tomorrow." He whispered letting go of her mouth.
"When did you follow the rules?" She whispered earning an eyebrow raise from him.
"Where were you going anyway?" He asked crossing his arms over his chest.
"Come on and I'll show you," she said grabbing his hand and dragging him down the hall. Although Charlie had assured him Robert wouldn't wake up, he still cringed at every little sound the blasted floor made.
Finally they made it down the stairs giving Alex the time to breathe as Charlie continue to drag him outside to the boat. Slowly she got in, helping Alex up before sitting I'm down.
"Stay here, I'll be right back," Alex watched her disappear into the living quarters, getting slightly worried when he heard a lot of banging. Soon enough she arrived with jars filled with a turquoise substance that seemed to be glowing. Placing them around them she grabbed a blanket and threw it down, lying on it she made herself comfortable before looking up at him.
"Are you gonna lie down or what?" She said smiling. Pushing off the chair he lay down next to her, looking up at the many stars.
"Wow, this is beautiful!"
"I could never forgot the stars here, as much as I tried." She said a sadness in her eyes, but when she looked at him it disappeared. "I guess home is home."
"Not for me,"
"How so?"
"I feel more at home here than in the house I grew up in. Home for me isn't the place, it's those I surround myself with."
"You missing anyone in particular?" She asked looking up at him as he continued to look up.
"If you're asking if I have a girlfriend then no, but I do miss Brendon."
"Who's he?"
"He's my best friend, but he's more like a brother. He's the only one I can depend on." He said as he watched the sky the gentle waves rocking the boat ever so slightly, lulling them to sleep.
"Well that's good, I'm glad you can trust someone."
"Yeah. What about you?"
"What about me?"
"What's up with the surfing obsession?"
"I just like it," she said but the sadness in her eyes told him otherwise.
"Ok I get it, the secret again huh?" He said looking back up as she glanced at him again. She didn't say anything else, but he didn't expect her to.
The night was silent except for the chirp of crickets and the slosh of the waves. Alex watched as Charlie breath followed the same steady rhythm, telling him she was asleep. Quickly he put everything away before picking her up and carrying her sleeping body to her room. Slowly he placed her down gently, covering her with a light throw, just in case she got cold. Slowly he brushed loose strands of hair from her face, admiring her beauty before leaving her to her dreams. Just that single action, that gesture of kindness and compassion caused his heart to pound.
What did I just do?
What is this?
