Episode 8: Blood Ties

---

The New Normal

Three years after their reunion, Blake, Sebastian, and Mei had settled into a rhythm, though "settling" was far from peaceful. The three lived together again, but tensions remained, simmering beneath the surface. Blake, though more stable, was still healing emotionally from the chaos of their past. Mei had fully embraced her new identity—not Blake's daughter, but his sister—and had grown distant, more aligned with Sebastian's worldview than Blake's.

Unlike Blake, who still clung to the idea of drinking animal blood when possible, both Mei and Sebastian fully indulged in human blood. They felt it was their nature—an expression of power and survival. Blake's preference for animal blood was something they found quaint at best, and a weakness at worst.

The Hunt

It was nearing dusk when the three gathered in the living room. Blake had been reading quietly, while Sebastian and Mei were preparing to head out for the night. As they donned their coats, Mei spoke up, her tone dismissive.

Mei: "You staying in again, Blake?"

Blake glanced up from his book, his jaw tightening slightly.

Blake: "I might join you later."

Sebastian chuckled, the sound dripping with amusement.

Sebastian: "Oh, come now, Blake. You say that every time. But we all know you'll be hunting for some poor animal while Mei and I feast on something more... satisfying."

Blake ignored Sebastian’s barb, but Mei shot her brother a look.

Mei: "You can't hide from it forever, you know."

Though she was still stuck in the body of a child, Mei’s attitude had hardened over the years. She had fully embraced what Sebastian had taught her about their kind: vampires didn’t survive on animal blood alone. They thrived on human blood, and she had no desire to hide that.

The Growing Distance

Once Sebastian and Mei had left for their hunt, Blake finally exhaled. Their constant insistence that he drink human blood more often gnawed at him. He’d indulged a few times—enough to keep his strength—but every time he did, it made him feel distant from the humanity he still clung to.

But that distance between him and Mei hurt the most. When she was younger, she'd followed Blake's guidance, listened to him. Now, she was different. More like Sebastian. More ruthless.

Blake poured himself a glass of animal blood from the fridge, his face reflecting in the crimson liquid. He knew he was being idealistic, perhaps foolish. Vampires weren’t meant to live like humans. Still, something inside him resisted.

Night Falls

Out in the city, Sebastian and Mei prowled the streets. They were a deadly pair, each moving with the grace and confidence of predators. Mei’s youthful appearance made it easier to lure people in, and Sebastian had always been a master manipulator. Together, they made quick work of their prey.

Afterward, they sat on a rooftop, watching the world below.

Sebastian: "He's holding us back, you know."

Mei wiped the blood from her lips, her expression indifferent.

Mei: "Blake’s always been like that. He wants to hold onto the past. To something human. It’s pathetic."
