Three months later (third month of pregnancy):

It was a day that oscillated between excitement and anxiety, a crucial moment for Piper and Alex. After starting the in vitro fertilization a few months earlier, it was finally time to know the results. The two women had gone to the clinic with a heart full of excitement, hope and fear mixing.

Waiting in the waiting room, both silent, lost in their own thoughts. The atmosphere was full of expectations when Piper's name rang out in the room. The doctor welcomed them into her office.

"Piper, you had your IVF three months ago and the tests show that you are pregnant," the doctor announced with a smile as if she was giving them an invaluable treasure. "Would you like to have an ultrasound now?"

In a moment, the emotion overwhelmed both of us. Alex bent down and kissed Piper, a gesture that embodies all the love and support. The doctor asked Piper to lie down on the bed and, after applying the cold gel to her stomach, she started the ultrasound. The two women shook hands, their eyes glued to the screen as the heartbeat of their child filled the room.

"Congratulations, you will have two children," said the doctor, and that moment was built into a monument of shared joy. Piper kissed her again, both eyes shining, full of tears and laughter. After the visit, Alex lifted Piper in her arms, the world outside vanished as they hugged each other.

"I didn't expect two. How will we do?" Piper's voice trembled as panic flared up.

"Calm down, love. We didn't know it, but now we are, and we will," Alex said in a firm but sweet voice. The reassurance flowed between them like an invisible thread.

Upon returning home, a comforting silence enveloped their home. Alex sat on the couch, Piper standing a little lost. Welcoming her into Alex's arms, he felt strong, always present. As he looked at her, Alex noticed something was wrong.

"What's the matter, love?" he asked, gently lifting Piper's chin to look her in the eye. Tears ran down Piper's face, but they were not only of fear; there was also a deep joy.

"Just so much fear, Al. Two children... It's a big change," Piper confessed in a trembling voice. But in those eyes there was also a determination that shone.

In the meantime, the outside world was fading away. A film was running in the background, but their hearts were beating in one symphony. With a gentle smile and a soft touch, Alex stroked Piper's belly until, exhausted, Piper fell asleep.

Alex gently lifted her, taking her to his room. There he exchanged her for the whole world, the refuge where they would face future challenges together. And as night fell upon them, sleep enveloped them in a warm embrace, ready to face the unknown, united in love and hope.
