Alicent was sat across her daughter, Princess Helaena in her chambers. She had requested to speak to her about her Father's passing when she attempted moments ago and failed.
Helaena paid you no mind at first, but eventually she speaks.
“It is our fate I think to crave what is given to another. If one possesses a thing, the other will take it away.” Heleana’s profound intelligence never failed to astonish her mother
“You are right, sweetling. Somethings just are.”
Helaena says nothing else, so Alicent breaks the silence. “I must extend my apologies, for the lack of sympathy.”
Helaena looks up at her mother, with the same kindness and understanding she has seen many times. One that never seemed to leave her eyes. “Whatever for mother?”
“Since being I birthed you in King’s Landing I have failed to make an effort to be there for you when you needed me the most” Alicent say sheepishly.
Helaena smiles and shakes her head. Turning her attention back to her sewing before she responds. “No need for apologies Mother. I’m sure you have been very busy with more important things. Your absence has not offended me I assure you.” she says, quickly dismissing the matter.
Queen Alicent breathed in deeply, mustering the courage to state her true business. “I regret to dampen your mood Helaena, but I relay an important message, there's something I wish to tell you.”
Helaena nods wordlessly, glancing at her mother for only a moment.
Alicent shudders “The King– Your father, he passed last night. I’m very sorry sweetling.”
She brace herself for tears but they don’t come.“Oh.” Helaena says, no longer looking up at her mother.
Alicent felt inclined to reach out to her. Sitting next to her daughter, she takes her hand in hers, forcing Helaena to meet her gaze. “Will you be alright, truly?”
Helaena gives her mother a warm smile as she nodded. Truth be told she almost seemed amused. “Father held no affection for me, mother. Nor I him. I will be fine.” the princess admits blandly.
Alicent nods in understanding. She could see where the her daughter's apathy was coming from and it left a bitter taste in her mouth.
She release her hand and Helaena goes back to sewing a spider into the quilt. The Queen sat in comfortable stillness for awhile and she prepare to take her leave but her daughter stops her by speaking.
“In truth, I only worry for you mother.” Helaena admits.
Alicent turns to her.
"Crossed on a thin line of duty. Blinding yourself from the truth, and carrying out your own desires, might break you beyond repair." Helaena says while sowing embroidery.
The words warms Alicent heart and shatters it all the same. The aurburn haired takes a long sigh. "Helaena I...."
“You will see after her won’t you? Be there for her?” Helaena asks shyly and you smile.
"See after who?" Alicent creased her brows confused.
"Rheanyra.....will you see that she gets what's rightly hers." Helaena looks up from the embroidery, gazing at her mother with depravity.
"I don't know what you're talking about, and you're starting to unnerve me, I must admit."Alicent pursed her lips.
