Sherwin was dancing around the nightclub with numerous female ferrets. He kept his typical sly grin as he made occasional slithers with his tail, summoning a computer above him and the females he danced with—the computers would emit holographic images in the nightclub, causing the virtual appearance of a bright meadow to replace the club scene in the room.
The females squealed with joy as the scenes altered from a medieval-like city, to a luxurious castle-like ballroom, to a scenic view over the mountains.
When the virtual scene became a forest, Sherwin thought he saw a contorting body in the shadows.
"Huh?" Sherwin flinched.
As soon as he stopped slithering his tail, the computer stopped emitting different holographic images—the scene around them transformed back into the nightclub.
The music boomed as ferrets around them began to dance.
Sherwin was staring toward the hallway—he saw a contorting shadow grow smaller until it disappeared around the corner.
Sherwin swallowed. His head began to throb as he entertained images he had witnessed of his Altered-Null in the Ex-Lula Would-Be Worldline. He saw flashes of himself cackling in a circus tent, watching as monstrous-looking ferrets tore at each other's flesh. A dancing ferret body swerved among them—it dodged their snapping jaws and caused the creatures to accidentally chomp and tear at each other.
Sherwin felt himself tense at the sound of his own cackling. No, it was my Altered-Null laughing. Altered-Nulls are not truly us...
Then he was not the only one laughing.
He heard wild, eerie laughter. Followed by nonsensical gibberish and screaming.
"Sherwin, baby! Dance with me!"
The sound of a female's voice snapped him out of the memories.
He blinked back into focus, shook the disturbing images out of his head, and gave his sly grin at the female in front of him. "Baby, you're dancing with me!" He took her hands and resumed dancing.
He tried not to let himself look down the hallway or entertain anymore memories of his Nulls' nonexistent Worldlines.
