Fiddleford Mcgucket woke up. At least, he thought he did.
The chilly breeze ripples through an enormous wheat field, stretching as far as the eye could see. The swishing sounds fill the air, the sky thick with dreary, grey clouds. Fiddleford shivers. Although he was in his usual lab coat, it did almost nothing against the cold gusts of wind. He rubs his palms together, an attempt to get warm. Nothing.
"What the devil..."
This was impossible. Looking around frantically, Fiddleford now realized one thing; he was completely and utterly alone. And no one could help him. Hell, he didn't even know where he was himself. McGucket wraps his arms around himself, a feeble attempt to get warm. The cold breeze nipped at his face, turning his cheeks and nose a rosy red.
"Darn it, why won't this wind just stop!?" he yells frustratedly, his voice echoing through the gray landscape. The wind froze, the air going deadly still. Everything was silent, his breathing and pounding heart shattering the stillness of the landscape. Although the wind had ceased, Fiddleford felt yet another shiver travel down his spine. The same odd feeling from a day ago took over.
He was definitely being watched.
Paralyzed with nerves, his eyes darted around. There....in the corner of his vision. A triangular shadow? He whirled around, eyes widening.
"Hiya, Smart Guy!"
There, floating in front of him was a yellow, one-eyed, triangle creature, with a top hat and bow tie...What...? Wait. Recognition struck him. The same deity from the mural.
"Damn, you're quiet. Did ya die already? You're 70 years early. Haha!" The triangle's voice echos in the expanse. He floats forward, causing Fiddleford to flinch.
"W-who are you? And what do y-you want?" He manages to stammer, stumbling backwards.
"Woah, don't act so surprised, kiddo. You did summon me after all~" If he had a face, Fiddleford guessed that the deity would've probably been smirking. "Name's Bill. And you're Fiddleford Mcgucket, the underappreciated assistant. Ha! Hilarious."
"I'm not underappreciated! Ford cares."
"Oh?" Bill mused, circling McGucket. "Stanford Pines is the one destined for greatness, not you 'hillbilly'. The moment he breaks through with his research, he'll abandon you. Admit it, you don't bring anything to the table. Unless being expendable counts. HA! Seriously, you are a riot."
Fiddleford paused. As much as he hated to admit it, he had to agree with Bill. He was useless. He couldn't even retaliate, because deep down, he knew the triangle was right.
"But...." the triangle adds, the young man's ears perking up.
"But what?"
"Ya don't have to always be that way. With me, I can bring you to greatness, and we'll show the world what you're truly capable of."
"But how? We've been trying to solve the mystery and source of Gravity Falls' weirdness since day one."
"Oh, that's simple. There's a dimension that leaks the weirdness into your mortal one. But if you truly want to be great, you'll have to build a portal there. And then you'll be known everywhere." Bill explained casually.
"An interdimensional portal...But...ain't that dangerous?" Fiddleford speaks up nervously.
"Great things take sacrifice. And besides, it's perfectly safe. Now then..." Bill's hand lit on fire, a cold and eerie blue. He extends it, offering it to McGucket. "Do we have a deal?"
This was the moment Fiddleford's life would change forever. He was done being expendable, being useless. Time to take matters into his own hands. He reached out, grabbing Bill's hand, shaking it determinedly.
"Deal."
This seemed like the start of an amazing opportunity. Deep down, Fiddleford Mcgucket knew he had just made a grave error.
