Soon after, the two ambitious researchers descended into the wreckage, known as Crash Site Omega. On his first few journeys here, Stanford had set up some wooden ladders to make the trip easier. However, that was years ago, the ladders weakened with age and creaking at every step.

Fiddleford cautiously stepped onto one of the rungs of the shaky ladder, slowly making his way down, Stanford below him. He was swiftly going down, with not a care in the world that it may break.

"This was a mistake..." McGucket muttered under his breath, taking another step lower, the ladder creaking under his and Stanford's weight.

"Fiddleford, hurry up, we don't have all day! I mean technically we do, but you know what I mean." he yelled as he stepped down two more rungs, almost all the way down.

With his friend's reassurance, Fiddleford to a confident step down. A feeling of panic quickly overtook him when his foot didn't reach anything. His balance was thrown off, and he slipped.

"FIDDLEFORD!"

But he didn't hear his companion over the sound of his heartbeat in his ears, drumming rapidly. Time seemed to slow down. His grip on the ladder was gone and he was falling too fast, it was too high. He shut his eyes as he braced for the impact of the ground-

But instead of hitting the cold, stone and breaking probably more than five bones, he felt someone catch him. Surprisingly, Stanford was able to.

"Are you alright?" he said, quickly putting his friend down, and glancing away awkwardly.

"Uhm, yeah. Should we...?" McGucket gestured to the crash site ahead.

"Yeah."

About an hour later of going through the deserted alien ship, they had found what they needed. An interdimensional energy generator. Now, to build the portal itself, and fuel the generator. This was going to go smoothly.

As they climbed out of the underground Crash Site Omega, McGucket swore he heard a whisper, felt like he was being watched all the way back to the cabin.

"Soon, worlds will collide..."

He was being paranoid. AGAIN. No more of this. He wasn't pathetic. He was going to be great. And it was gonna happen sooner than ever.
