My mother and I had just gotten back from thorn haven. She was in her study and I was in my room. I sat down at my worn out wooden desk which was painted white. It was so old that the paint has started to chip. I stare at the unopened book on my desk that Kacchan had given me. My thoughts were in-casing me. When I open this book I'll officially start learning magic. Something that has been hated in this kingdom for a long time until I was born.
For context, hundreds of years ago, there were magic users in this kingdom but, the poor or those who could not afford the proper learning, could not practice magic. There was a king all those years ago who shall remain unnamed. You see, this king had everything he wanted. He had a beautiful wife, three heirs to the throne, and he was loved by many. But the one thing he wanted the most, was to learn magic. But, he couldn't. It's not that he couldn't afford it, it's just, no matter how many spells he tried, he just couldn't do any sort of magic. Taken by his greed, he grew jealous of his subjects who learned magic. So, what's better than to start a war? He started conflicts between the magic users and the non-magic users in his kingdom. So much so that a civil war broke out. But, the non-magic using side ended up winning. And magic was banned from Lunaris.
The loss of magic had made lives harder for the kingdom. But, blinded by their rage, the kingdom refused to go back to magic. That is until, almost hundreds of years later, winters became more harsh. It was when my mother was growing up that she had noticed a drastic change in the kingdom population, and not in a good way. The winter kept us from growing crops, to get medicine. It was almost impossible to get warmth. So she made a plan. She sent a letter to Thorn Haven and they gladly accepted it. Any guesses about that letter? That's right! It was Katsuki and I's engagement. After I was born I became a symbol of peace and new beginnings to the kingdom because I was to save many lives. That's one thing that's kept me going.
My mother's plan was that Thorn Haven, a kingdom known for its fire magic users, would help us grow our crops, get out for the winter, get medicine and even help repopulate the kingdom. I do understand that mother wanted to help. But she got greedy. Now, she sees this marriage as a way to get more power. Like I said at the beginning. I was only born for this marriage. I don't have any other purpose. At least... that's what my mother made me believe. Now, that I actually get to start learning magic, I have a purpose. That is if I actually can. The royal bloodline, my bloodline, has not broken for thousands upon thousands of years. So yeah, I'm related to that king that couldn't learn magic. So I'm hesitant. I hope it doesn't travel through the bloodline. Only one way to find out.
My hands traced over the cover of the worn out book before I finally moved to open it. The book was huge. When I opened it, it started with a table of context. The first one read
"Find your magic. Page3"
So I flipped there. The page header was "Finding what's right." I continued to read on. "Before you start learning magic, you first need to find the magic that's right for you. I'm sure you've heard that everyone has an arcana, right? Well you just need to find what suits your arcana best. Start on the next page. If you can't find your magic in this book, it could mean you have a more uncommon magic that could be found in the next volumes of this book. Even if you do find your magic, we highly recommend you go to the other volumes anyways because it's possible to have two arcana's. Good luck"
I looked at the next page. Oddly enough it started fire magic. "Draw this symbol with your finger. If you cannot, it might mean that you don't have an arcana. Try to focus on the energy in your finger and then it will start drawing." Then it showed an ancient fire rune I had seen in books before. I was worried. What if I end up not having an arcana? I took a deep breath and focused on the energy in my finger. I gasped when I saw that it started drawing a white light from my finger. "Oh my gosh... I have an arcana..." I mumbled to myself. I didn't want to stop the process so I drew a circle with a smaller circle inside of it and then a fire symbol. I stopped drawing and then the symbol disappeared. I looked at the book. "If the rune disappeared that means that this isn't the magic right for you. Please try another one." The book advises.
