"i'm home!" i call out, my voice echoing through the empty hallway as i push the door closed with my foot, eyes glued to the glowing screen of my phone. the familiar scent of our house greets me, but i barely notice it. i kick off my shoes, sending them tumbling into a corner without a second thought, and make a beeline for the kitchen. my hand moves on autopilot as i reach into the fridge and pull out a bottle of water. twisting off the cap, i finally lift my gaze, turning to face the open living room.

that's when i almost spit the water right back out. instead, i choke, sputtering as i try to swallow, my eyes widening in disbelief. there, sprawled across our couch like they own the place, is a group of guys. they grin and wave at me, as if this is the most normal thing in the world. "say hello to my friends," mark says, his eyes twinkling with amusement as i stand frozen, halfway between wanting to run upstairs and just walk right out the front door again. "since when do you have friends?" i mutter, a bit sharper than i intended, but mark doesn't seem to care. his friends, on the other hand, burst into laughter, and i can't help the small smile tugging at my lips. they've been here a few times before, but teasing mark is a habit i can't shake. he shoots me a mock glare while i, already done with the conversation, turn on my heel and head upstairs. i've got enough schoolwork to drown in, anyway.

once i reach my room, the quiet blankets me, and for the first time today, i feel surprisingly focused. ignoring the grumble of my stomach, i settle into my desk chair and dive into my homework. time passes in a blur, the hours slipping away unnoticed until i finally finish the last assignment. exhaustion weighs on me as i slump over my desk. just as i'm about to close my eyes for a well-deserved nap, a knock at the door startles me back to life. i sit up straight, blinking as the door creaks open, revealing a familiar face. nakamoto yuta—probably the hottest guy i've ever laid eyes on. his head peeks through the gap, his hair falling perfectly into place like it always does. "we ordered pizza and were about to watch a movie. mark told me to ask if you want to join us," he says, his lips curling into that effortlessly charming smile. my stomach picks that exact moment to growl, and i nod, a bit too eager to escape my room. together, we head downstairs, where the living room has turned into a battlefield of movie debates. the guys are sprawled out everywhere—on the couch, the floor, surrounded by pillows and blankets like they're settling in for a sleepover. after some arguing, we settle on watching the second part of the movie we didn't finish last time.

i grab one of the blankets from the back of the couch and drape it over my legs, already shivering a little in the shorts i'd chosen to wear. i sit at the edge of the couch, with yuta on my left, close enough that i can feel the warmth radiating from him, while the rest of the guys spread out across the floor and furniture, still bickering but quieter now. it feels oddly comfortable, and as the movie starts, i find myself sinking into the cushions, more relaxed than i've felt all day.
