Sultan Osman
The doctors were right. There isn't much we can do. I tried to hide it from the children and Behiç, spare them of the pain but eventually the truth has to come out.
I called Behiç to my chambers and she came on the spot, but her eyes looked red and swollen.
"Behiç, what happened?" I demanded. She sniffed. "Did someone hurt you?"
I looked into her eyes and she gazed into mine, and it hit me- she found out.
"How did you know?"
"I overheard this morning..." Behiç began as tears dipped down her cheeks. "Is it true?"
"Yes." I said, as tears welled up in my eyes, and I took her in my arms as we embraced, tears streaming down her face and Behiç sobbed.
"Please don't leave me! Osman!"
"There's nothing I can do, Behiç. Allah will claim me soon." I shook my head. I wiped tears off her cheeks. "Please, my love, take this as is. I have time, albeit only a little, and I would like to spend it in peace and happiness with you and our children and others who we love."
She nodded as I got up, took her hand, and we went to my balcony to watch the sunset.
"I'll never really leave you, Behiç, my beautiful. And one day, we will be reunited in Heaven."
