A few weeks later, life had returned to a new kind of normal. Jamie had sent a few texts from Little Kilton, letting Pippa know that he was doing better and spending time with his family. The investigation into his stalker was still open, but the immediate danger had passed. Pippa had started to find her footing again, diving back into her studies with a renewed sense of purpose.

And Cairo? Cairo had kept her promise. She was still there, by Pippa’s side, but she had stopped trying to control everything. They had found a balance, an understanding that neither of them had to be perfect—just honest.

One afternoon, as they sat together on campus, Cairo looked at Pippa, a rare smile tugging at the corners of her lips. “You know,” she said, her voice light, “I think I might actually like this whole ‘letting go’ thing.”

Pippa laughed softly, leaning into her. “I think you’re doing just fine.”

Cairo’s smile widened, and for a moment, everything felt right. The past, with all its complications and struggles, was behind them. The future, with all its uncertainties, was ahead.

But here, in this moment, they had each other.

And that was enough.
