Roman and Nina walked into an abandoned building, the sound of their footsteps echoing through the empty, decaying halls. Roman's right eye was covered by a worn, black eyepatch. The weight of the world seemed to press down on them as they closed the heavy doors behind them, shutting out the horrors of the night.
Nina moved swiftly, closing all the windows, securing the building from any prying eyes or lurking dangers. The silence between them was thick, heavy with unspoken fears. Roman broke it first.
“In order to save the world, we must kill him—the Darkened One,” he said, his voice steady but grim.
Nina, standing by the last window, turned to face him. “Can we really do it, Roman? Just the two of us?” Her voice wavered slightly, betraying the doubts gnawing at her.
Roman stared at her with his one good eye, his face a mask of determination. “The Union says that we can do it. All we can do is trust them and follow their words.”
“But what if they’re wrong?” Nina asked, her tone more insistent, a mix of fear and skepticism.
“The Union is never wrong,” Roman replied with unwavering conviction, though a flicker of uncertainty passed through his eye.
They both knew the gravity of their mission. The Darkened One was no ordinary foe; he was a force of chaos and destruction, unlike anything they had ever faced. But they had no choice but to rest, to gather their strength for the battle ahead.
As the night gave way to a new day, Roman and Nina woke to the first rays of sunlight filtering through the cracks in the boarded-up windows. The air was thick with the stench of death. They opened the door and stepped out onto the streets, only to be greeted by a horrifying sight—dead bodies were strewn everywhere, victims of the night’s terror.
The world they once knew was falling apart, crumbling under the weight of the darkness that the Darkened One had unleashed. Yet, amidst the devastation, the sun began to rise, casting an eerie glow over the carnage.
Nina looked towards the horizon, where the first light of day met the darkness. “Guess we’re off to stop the end of the world,” she said quietly, the enormity of their task sinking in.
Roman nodded, his wooden leg creaking as he took a step forward. “Yeah,” he agreed, his voice filled with a mix of determination and resignation. “We are.”
Side by side, they walked into the sunrise, knowing that the fate of the world rested on their shoulders. The path ahead was uncertain, and the weight of their mission was heavy, but they had no choice but to press on. The end of the world was looming, and they were the only ones who could stop it.
