the brunette scrolls aimlessly through his phone while lying on his bed.

there was simply nothing to do today. so he did what any teenager does. scroll and scroll.

a ping was suddenly heard from his phone. it was a message from his best friend. it was interesting how he got so close with one person in the span of only a couple of months.

but hey. the universe has its ways, right?

so here mason was, opening whatever message dani sent him. it was probably either about something stupid she's done, a song, or her complaining about love island.

either way, he wasn't really complaining. he always enjoyed talking to her. it didn't matter where or when. time was nonexistent whenever the two talked to each other.

mason all of a sudden heard his door open to see his sister walking in and sitting on his gaming chair.

"do you knock?" he says while brooke looks around her brother's messy room.

"no why would i do that?" she says as she watches her little brother text someone from his phone. "is it dani again?" she asks, already knowing the answer to her question.

she noticed how much closer the two have gotten over the span of a few months. she honestly thought it was very sweet. she always saw how much mason's face lit up at even the mention of his best friend's name. even if he tried to hide it. and she was happy to see him happy.

but deep down a part of brooke has always been curious to see if their relationship could go farther than just friends.

"yeah, so?" mason responds to his sister as he waits for dani to answer his text. he notices that his older sister was making a certain face at him "hellooo? what's wrong with you why do you have a stupid look on your face?"

"first of all fuck you. and second of all, what's going on with you and dani" brooke asks curiously while making a playful face.

"no no. this is where you get the hell out of my room. absolutely nothing. she is my best friend so don't even go there" he says in almost a defensive tone.

he will admit that he always found dani to be beautiful. she had the brightest personality. almost like a star. but much brighter than the sun will ever be. there was never a dull moment with her.

but he wouldn't do that to his best friend. he couldn't. he didn't want to take the risk of losing a friendship that meant so much to him. he didn't want to lose any of it.

did he? honestly, he didn't even understand himself.

"okay okay jeez. no need to get defensive you little baby, but i'm just saying you two would be really really cu-" before brooke could even finish her sentence, she was cut off by her brother.

"yeah no. me and dani are just friends okay? that's it. just friends." he said while his sister makes a face that has i don't believe you written all over it. she leaves the room leaving mason to himself again. him and dani were just friends. that was all they would ever be. he couldn't possibly see them as something more.

besides, she definitely didn't think the same either.

right?
