The room was bathed in pitch darkness, Zoya was seated on the floor, her back against the side of the bed, knees drawn up to her chest. Her head rested against her arms, which were crossed over her knees, her body trembling with quiet sobs. Her hair framing her face messily, strands sticking to her wet cheeks. Each breath she took was shaky, uneven, as if the simple act of breathing was a struggle.
Tears streamed down her face, one after another, leaving a glistening trail in the faint light. Her shoulders shook with each cry. The room felt colder and heavy as if the walls themselves were pressing in on her, amplifying her loneliness, sorrow and pain.
The only sound was her soft, muffled sobs and the occasional hitch in her breath. She reached up with a trembling hand to wipe away the tears but they kept coming, flowing as if they would never stop. Her eyes were swollen and red, her face pale in the dim light, a stark contrast to the darkness around her.
"Mein tumhe dobara khone ke bajaye poori duniya ko chor na pasand karunga. Zain Malik ka wajood uski Zoi ke begair iss duniya main koi mayini nahi rakhta!!!"
His words echoed in her ears making her eyes shut with agony. It'd been two days since those horrible events took place, two days since he hadn't returned home, two days since she hadn't seen him, heard his voice and felt him. He had promised he'd not leave her again, wouldn't hurt her again but he broke all his promises. He didn't trust her, didn't believe her, in her love!!!
She leaned her head against the bed, closing her eyes tightly, as if trying to block out the world, to hide from everything that had hurt her. Her chest felt tight, her heart aching with a pain that seemed endless. In that moment, she felt small, lost in the vast emptiness of the room, swallowed by the darkness, her tears the only company she had.
Abruptly the door of the bedroom creaked open and a worn out Zain walked in, unaware of her presence inside. His hair disheveled, clothes all wrinkled, shoulders slumped and dark circles under his eyes were indicating he hadn't slept properly for these two days. He reached for the switchboard and turned on the lights causing Zoya to flicker her eyes with a jolt, snapping her back in the real world. The bright striking light almost blinded her sight.
Zain's heart skipped a beat when he caught the sight of her small figure curled on the cold floor. He took in her appearance and found her clad in the same clothes, her face and brown eyes looking pale and colorless as if lost all of its charm and beauty in two days. A tray of food was resting beside her, untouched. She hadn't eaten anything and a few cartons were scattered all over the room. They had been preparing to leave for New York.
His heart wrenched and melted at the same time however recalling everything that happened that day, soreness stirred within him again.
"Stop this melodrama of yours and leave my room." Saying so, He walked toward the wardrobe to fetch his clothes. His head was throbbing mercilessly and all he wanted was to have a good peaceful sleep without anyone disturbing him.
His room? Now it has become only his room??
Zoya rose from the floor regaining her posture and strode towards him. It was as if her soul was restored back in her body.
"I'm not going anywhere unless you hear me out Zain Malik!!!"
Zain was startled when Zoya slammed the wardrobe door shut just as he opened it to grab the clothes. He clenched his jaw as he glanced at her to meet with her fierce look. She was no longer crying and appearing weak.
"I'm not interested to hear your nonsense, how you cheated behind my back and blah blah, just leave me alone." Looking straight into her eyes, he remarked coldly, his voice deep, rough and his gaze hold no softness or affection for her any longer that prick her heart to no bound. Tears brimmed in her eyes again, her strong facade shattering.
