Kyrell

"Your Majesty, the monsters have breached the city limits. They are making their way through the city at unusual speed." Jedrek, my personal knight and commander, informs me.

"How is that possible?" I grit my teeth as I stood from a lookout tower around the city. "There are so many. It should have taken weeks to arrive to the capital from the south. And we should have heard news about them."

"From what I could gather from the scouts, there are three sorcerers in the city. I believe that the sorcerers were capable of transporting all the monsters directly into the city. Their skill is far more than I had anticipated." Jedrek frowns, looking down at the city.

I had informed of the threats, hoping that our troops would understand the extent of the monsters' power. But entering the city is a direct hit.

We are split between protecting the citizens and killing the monsters.

I've assigned troops to help evacuate the city as well as offensive troops. However, we pray to Lucia that we have enough strength to defeat every last one.

Three sorcerers are formidable.

I pivot my body in the direction of the door to leave the lookout tower. "I'll go deal with the sorcerers, make sure the rest of the men are doing all they can to deal with the rest of the monsters."

"Yes, Your Majesty." Jedrek does a curt bow.

My hand locks with the handle of the door.

"Wait, Your Majesty." Jedrek's voice makes me look over my shoulder.

The tall, muscular man is gazing over the city once more. This time his frown even more intense.

"They're gone."

"What?" I release the handle and go back to the stone edge of the tower.

"The monsters are retreating."

I skim the city to see the monsters retreating into portals. About five of them are in my sight, glowing as they swallowed the monsters, taking them who knows where.

"Something isn't right. If they're leaving, that means that..." My eyes go wide.

"They got what they came for." Jedrek finishes my sentence.

"Estella." I mumble under my breath. "Jedrek, find the Queen immediately!" I order already running towards the door.

Not again. Please not again.

Why does she keep making me worry?

I scowl, my body seated in the conference room. Alden to my right, Caelus to my left, Jedrek behind me. Duke Mellon beside Alden along with Count Laurier and Lady Dilana. Marquis Everton from Osertia had accompanied Caelus.

"Repeat what you have told me." My fingers tap the cherrywood table as I sat at the head of the table.

Alden clears his throat. "I was escorting Her Majesty along with the prince from the castle when suddenly the prince's curse unleashed. It was the worst I've seen. The blast had me lose consciousness."

Alden hangs his head slightly, a white bandage wrapped around it. "When I awoke, the two were missing and this was found." He lifts the cracked egg onto the table.

"Is that..." Duke Mellon frowns.

"It hatched." My eyes narrow on the egg.

"Your Majesty, did know about the egg?" Duke Mellon shift his eyes to me.
