The sun was already low by the time Y/N stepped onto the field for the scrimmage. The familiar feel of the turf under her cleats usually helped her focus, but not today.

Lynn was jogging out ahead, her ponytail bouncing with each step, and for some reason, Y/N couldn't stop watching her.Get your head in the game, Y/N, she scolded herself. She wasn't here to admire Lynn; she was here to beat her. Again. The coach blew the whistle, and the scrimmage kicked off. Y/N's team was on defense, and Lynn immediately took possession, weaving through the midfield like the field was hers alone.

Y/N wasn't about to let her get away with it. She sprinted across the grass, eyes locked on Lynn, heart racing for reasons she refused to acknowledge. As Y/N closed in, Lynn glanced over her shoulder and smirked, as if she knew exactly what Y/N was thinking.

"Too slow, Y/N!" she teased, shifting her body to dodge Y/N's tackle. But this time, Y/N anticipated Lynn's move. She slid in just as Lynn tried to cut inside, her cleats knocking the ball loose. A burst of pride surged through Y/N as she regained control.

"Not today, Loud."For a split second, their eyes met, and there was something in Lynn's expression—something that didn't look like frustration or anger. It was almost like... admiration? The moment passed quickly as Y/N pushed forward, but her chest tightened.

She couldn't stop thinking about that look. What did it mean? Why did it feel like the rivalry that defined them for so long was starting to shift? The scrimmage ended in a draw, with both teams too evenly matched. But Y/N didn't care about the score.

As they walked off the field, she found herself wondering how long she could ignore the strange tension between her and Lynn.---That night, Y/N was lying on her bed, staring at the ceiling. Her phone buzzed, pulling her out of her thoughts.

It was a message from Lynn.**Lynn:** Nice tackle today. You're finally catching up.Y/N smirked at her phone, thumbs hesitating over the keyboard before she responded.**Y/N:** Don't get used to it. Next game, I'll leave you in the dust. She hit send, her heart thumping in her chest. It was just friendly banter, but somehow it felt heavier than that.

Lynn hadn't sent a message like this before. And Y/N wasn't used to seeing anything from Lynn that wasn't pure competition.Minutes passed, and just as Y/N was about to set her phone down, another message popped up.**Lynn:** We should hang out sometime.

Off the field. You know, if you're up for it.Y/N blinked, staring at the message. Lynn, asking to hang out? Off the field? Her fingers hovered over the screen. Why did this feel like more than just a casual invitation? Part of her wanted to say no. Keep things simple.

Keep things competitive. But another part—the part that couldn't forget the way Lynn looked at her during the game—wanted to say yes. After a long pause, she typed out her response.

**Y/N:** Yeah, maybe. If you can handle losing to me in something other than football. She hit send before she could overthink it, feeling a mix of excitement and nerves settle in her stomach. Whatever this was between them, it was changing. And Y/N wasn't sure if she was ready for what came next. But she had a feeling there was no going back now.

The next morning, Y/N found herself more distracted than usual as she got ready for school. Lynn's message was still fresh in her mind, a lingering reminder that something had shifted between them.

Was it really just a friendly offer to hang out? Or was there more to it?As she slipped her backpack on, Jax peeked his head into her room. "You're gonna be late, Y/N! Rico already left without you."Y/N groaned, quickly grabbing her phone.

"Yeah, yeah, I'm coming."On her way to school, Y/N couldn't help but think about what would happen when she saw Lynn. Every time they were on the field, the rivalry felt like a game—one where they both knew the rules. But this... this felt like new ground. When she got to school, it wasn't long before she spotted Lynn in the hallway, surrounded by a few of her friends.

Y/N hesitated, not sure if she should approach. But Lynn caught her eye, and for the first time, instead of giving her the usual smirk or a teasing comment, Lynn just smiled. It was a simple, genuine smile that caught Y/N off guard. Y/N gave a quick nod in return, feeling the heat rise to her cheeks as she headed to her locker.

Her mind was racing. Since when did Lynn smile at her like that? Since when did she care?As the day dragged on, Y/N couldn't stop thinking about that smile. By the time lunch rolled around, she found herself looking for Lynn in the cafeteria, wondering if she'd get another chance to figure out what was going on.

Sure enough, Lynn was there, sitting at a table with her usual group. And once again, their eyes met.Y/N had never been the type to shy away from a challenge, but this felt different—like a challenge of a whole different kind.

Taking a deep breath, Y/N walked over to Lynn's table, heart pounding in her chest."Hey," Y/N said, standing across from her.Lynn looked up, her eyes lighting up as she noticed Y/N. "Hey! You wanna sit?"Y/N hesitated for a second before nodding and sitting down.

Lynn's friends exchanged glances but didn't say anything. It felt strange, sitting here instead of across the room where Y/N usually ate with her own crew. But it wasn't uncomfortable—just... different. As they started talking, mostly about football and the upcoming season, Y/N realized something. Being around Lynn like this—without the usual tension of competition hanging over them—it felt almost easy. Natural, even."So," Lynn said, leaning in with a grin,

"you're actually down to hang out?"Y/N raised an eyebrow. "Yeah, if you can keep up."Lynn laughed, shaking her head. "I was gonna say the same thing.

I'm thinking we hit the gym after practice tomorrow. See what you've got outside of football."The challenge was clear in her voice, but there was something playful in the way she said it, something that made Y/N's chest tighten again. She wasn't sure if it was the rivalry or something else entirely, but she found herself nodding.

"Deal."The bell rang, signaling the end of lunch, and as everyone stood to leave, Lynn gave Y/N a quick glance. "See you on the field, Y/N."For the rest of the day, that same thought circled through Y/N's mind—hanging out with Lynn, no football, no rivalry, just the two of them. It was a weird thought, but for the first time in years, Y/N didn't feel like running from it. Instead, she was kind of looking forward to seeing where it would lead.

---After practice the next day, Y/N and Lynn headed to the gym together. The air between them was lighter than usual, a mix of competitive energy and something a little more personal. They sparred a little, lifting weights side by side, trading playful jabs and challenges. At one point, Lynn wiped the sweat from her forehead and grinned at Y/N.

"You're not half bad. But don't think I'm going easy on you just because we're not on the field."Y/N rolled her eyes, smirking. "Please. You couldn't beat me if you tried."Lynn stepped closer, eyes locked on Y/N's.

"You sure about that?"There it was again—that spark, that intensity. It wasn't the same as it had been before. It felt like the lines between competition and something deeper were blurring, and Y/N could feel herself getting pulled into it.

She didn't know what this was or what it meant, but she wasn't backing down."Positive," Y/N said softly, holding Lynn's gaze. For a moment, neither of them moved. The air between them thickened, charged with something new, something that had been building for a while now. Then, as if snapping out of it,

Lynn grinned and stepped back, breaking the tension. "Well, we'll see about that next game."But as Y/N watched her walk away, she knew that whatever was happening between them, it wasn't just about the next game anymore. It was about something much bigger than their rivalry—a connection that neither of them could deny any longer.
