Reiko found herself having lunch with Kageyama, most of their classmates have left the room, perhaps to go to their friends that were in the other classrooms, or to eat else where. Their tables were moved to be stuck together as she placed her lunch box on her desk. They hadn't spoken since the introductions, and even then, they only exchanged one word greetings.
"I'm going to buy some milk." He finally said standing up, and she nodded, considering she had known his routine of buying milk or yogurt every lunch. She was beginning to unpack her lunch when he called her "oi, you're coming with me."
"h-huh?" she blinked, pointing at herself "but I don't even need anything?"
Kageyama looked at her as if what he was ever trying to imply was obvious, she blinked perhaps she's been gone for too long that she can't easily read Kageyama as before. "I'm not letting you leave my sight ever again." he told her and she quickly stood up and walked to his side, hand grabbing his sleeve.
"okay"
He nodded content, as he began walking, leaving the classroom and maneuvering through the halls.
"Kageyama.. I'm not going anywhere." She voiced out, eyes glancing at the boy then back at the hallway, she silently wondered if he knew where he was going or if he was sure that there was a vending machine.
Kageyama stopped, eyes flickering towards her as he took a deep breath "I don't believe you." She winced, she should have expected his apprehension and distrust. "Besides.. it's not like you'll have a choice if someone decides to kidnap you again."
"What even happened?" he asked as he turned around, looking outside the window to see the grassy hills that were part of Karasuno's charm so to speak.
Reiko opened her mouth then quickly closed it shut, she already anticipated this question, from a lot of people but it was Kageyama Tobio asking her! her best friend.. it felt hard to even lie to him.
He could see her expressions in the reflection of the glass window, how her face twisted looking as if she was in pain.
"I.. It's a long story." she honestly said.
"I have time."
She cracked up a grin "think Auntie would let you have a sleepover with me?" "definitely." he nodded quite confidently, "without knowing it's with me?"
That caused Kageyama to falter, his parents adored her, as did his sister and grandfather. He knew that, and used her as an excuse or leverage to do things in the past.
"I'm not quite ready to tell them this story." She explained at his questioning glance, and he nodded in understanding. What happened while she was gone must have been very heavy to share with so many people. "Okay. I'll think of something."
She smiled at him gratefully and took his hand "come on, I think I saw a vending machine around the corner."
Reiko had honestly feared that it would be hard to reconnect with Kageyama, but perhaps her fear was unfounded? luckily it seemed Kageyama was holding off on scolding her as he seemed to want to hear the full story.
Delaying it was the best decision as she tried to weigh her options to be able to decide just how much she could tell Kageyama without putting his life in danger.
They soon returned to their classroom, Kageyama holding a milk box in one hand while the other held her own.
Sometimes he'd squeeze her hand and stare at her, he couldn't help it. He just wanted to make sure she really was there with him.
Meanwhile Reiko returned empty handed since she didn't feel like getting something for herself. With that they began eating in silence which wasn't too tense or awkward but somehow it was just right.
