Marty walked down from the soup kitchen and found the police station. Marty saw the prison cell windows. Now was his chance.

Marty whispered, "Psst Doc!"

Doc gasped, going to the window, "Marty! Where's Annie? And what are you doing here?"

Marty explained, "She decided to stay behind in 1986 to avoid suspicion. And anyway, you sent for us."

Doc did a double take, "Wait 1986?" That's when he realized, "The automatic retrieval system. Of course! I'd almost forgotten about that..."

Marty asked, "So, what's our plan for getting you out of here?"

Doc raised a brow, "Plan? We don't need a plan."

Marty was confused, "We don't?"

Doc explained, "Not in the slightest! The police picked me up for that speakeasy fire a couple weeks ago, but the D.A. hasn't got a case! They're releasing me tomorrow morning!"

Marty questioned, "So wait I time traveled fifty years in the past...deliver your car?"

Doc apologized, "Sorry about that. But it is wonderful to see you. Maybe I could come back to 1986 with you and see Annie! I'd love to see her after all of this time. We have so much catching up to do!"

Marty pulled out the newspaper and said, "Yeah, you might want to hold off on that Doc."

Doc took the newspaper and gasped, "Great Scott! I'm going to be gunned down by gangsters on the steps of the courthouse!"

The youngest McFly asked, "Why would they do that?"

The scientist answered, "Guess they didn't approve of me burning down their speakeasy."

Marty grimaces, "You are so lucky Annie isn't here. Now let's come up with a plan?"

Doc agreed, "A plan, right. But what?!"

Marty thought for a minute and offered, "Why don't I take the De Lorean, go back in time before you were arrested, and stop you from getting caught in the first place?"

Doc shook his head, "Don't even think about it. Without my unjust incarceration, the events that sent you back into the past might never happen, resulting in a paradox of continuum shattering proportions!"

Marty quipped, "Geez, we're back together five minutes, Doc and you're already talking about the end of the universe. I've missed that."

Doc rolled his eyes, "Annie would have gotten on me on that one too. But still, don't be ridiculous Marty. I was only referring to the end of the universe as we know it."

Marty perked up, "Yeah well multiverse time traveling isn't our thing - yet. I could get some dynamite and break you out of jail..."

Doc pleaded, "Oh no, no, no. That's far too dangerous...not just to me but to random innocent people in the past. The repercussions could be..." That's when he realized something, "That's it!"

Marty asked, "What's it?"

Doc answered, "My rocket powered drill!"

Marty raised a brow, "You have a rocket powered drill?"

Doc stated, "Not yet. I haven't built it yet."

Marty admitted, "You've lost me, Doc."

Doc replied, "Listen. A few months ago, my seventeen year old self, sent in a patent application for a rocket powered drill. I abandoned the project after I never heard back from the patent office, but the prototype should be nearly complete."

Marty started to say, "Great! I'll just run back to your lab and..."

Doc pointed out, "No, no, no. I said it was nearly complete. You'll need my younger self to help you out."

Marty was starting to put the pieces together, "Wait a minute Doc. You want me to convince your 1931 self to build a rocket powered drill to bust you out of jail?"

Doc nodded, "Precisely!"

Marty questioned, "Won't talking to yourself hurt the time stream? And what about Estelle?"

Doc reassured, "Don't worry Marty, she's taking advanced classes in Dimmsdale during this time. So no worries there. As for talking to my younger self, it should be fine. I've already invented the idea of the rocket drill you've just got to goad him into finishing the prototype!"

Marty asked, "How in the world am I supposed to convince him to do that? Just tell him that I need it to break his older self out of jail?"

Doc insisted, "Absolutely not! Whatever you do, you can't tell my younger self anything about time travel! I won't come up with the inspiration for the flux capacitor for another 24 years!"

The youngest McFly asked, "Then how...?"

The scientist told him, "Just be your charming self. From what I remember, I was a pretty easy going kid. So enlisting me for a scientific adventure will be a piece of cake!"

Marty was curious, "Even if I go along with this crazy idea, where is your younger self right now?"

Doc admitted, "How should I know? It was over 50 years ago! Why don't you go to the soup kitchen next door and give my house a call? They will know where to find me. And stay away from the soup. It causes irreparable damage to your digestive system."

Marty replied, "Okay, I'll get started. Don't worry, Doc. I'll get you out of there in no time - then we both get to go home and see Annie."

Doc smiled, "Yes, that does sound wonderful. I'm sure you and my younger self can do it. Cause once you two put your heads together, you'll be unstoppable!"

With that, Marty went back to the soup kitchen. He went to the phone in the back and called Doc's old house.

"Brown residents." A voice answered, sounding like an old man.

Marty replied, "Um hi... do you know where I can find Emmett Brown?"

The old man replied, "Young Master Brown is currently tending to his clerking duties at the courthouse. Who may I say is calling?"

Marty quickly hung up as he mumbled, "Courthouse? Doc never told me that he was working at the courthouse. Or Annie either, I think...?"

Marty then left the soup kitchen and walked over to the courthouse. He was about to enter when this young man bumped into him.
