The night before, everything had felt perfect. Naksh couldn't have known how quickly his life would unravel, how a simple phone call would turn his world upside down.
He had just finished breakfast when his phone rang-a number he didn't recognize. He answered it, expecting some routine call, but the words that followed felt like a punch to his gut.
"Mr. Naksh? This is the HR department of ReVise Tech. We've received your request to cancel your job offer. We're sorry to hear this, but we've processed your cancellation as per your email instructions."
Naksh's mind froze. "What? I didn't send any email to cancel the offer! There's been some mistake."
"There doesn't appear to be any mistake," the HR representative said calmly. "The email came from your official ID two days ago. Should I forward it to you?"
Naksh's pulse quickened as a wave of panic swept over him. "Yes, please send it."
He hung up and immediately opened his laptop, waiting anxiously for the email to arrive. When it did, Naksh's eyes scanned the message, disbelief tightening his chest.
*Subject: Offer Cancellation*
*To whom it may concern,*
*I regret to inform you that I am no longer able to accept the position offered to me at ReVise Tech. Please cancel my employment contract immediately.*
*Thank you.*
*Regards,*
*Naksh.*The email was right there in front of him, sent from his own account. But Naksh hadn't sent it. He knew he hadn't. Yet, it was undeniable-the email had come from his laptop.
His thoughts raced as the truth began to take shape in his mind. He hadn't sent the email, so who had? Only two people had access to his laptop: himself and Aarna. She had been at his apartment two days ago, the very day the email was sent.
Naksh's breath came in short, angry bursts as a darker thought surfaced-Aarna must have done it. She had been distant lately, ever since he got the job offer. Maybe she resented him for getting the position instead of her. Maybe she couldn't handle it, so she sabotaged his future.
Anger welled up inside him, hot and blinding. He couldn't believe it, but the pieces seemed to fit. The betrayal was too real, too raw to ignore.
---
Naksh arrived at Aarna's apartment in a blur of fury and confusion. He pounded on her door, his knuckles turning white from the force. When she opened it, her face lit up in surprise, but his intense expression made her smile falter.
"Naksh? What's going on? Why do you look so upset?" Aarna asked, her eyes scanning his face for answers.
He shoved past her without a word, storming into her living room. His hands were clenched into fists, and his thoughts were a jumbled mess of accusations and disbelief.
"Did you send an email from my laptop two days ago?" Naksh demanded, his voice harsh and cutting.
"What? No!" Aarna's eyes widened in shock. "Why would I send an email from your laptop?"
"To cancel my job offer," Naksh growled, his anger bubbling over. "Someone sent an email from my account, using my laptop, and it wasn't me. You were the only other person who had access. You were the only one who could have done it."
Aarna's face paled as tears welled up in her eyes. "Naksh, I swear, I didn't do it. I would never do that to you. Please, you have to believe me!"
But Naksh couldn't hear her pleas. The betrayal cut too deep. All he could see was the evidence, staring him in the face. He had trusted her, loved her, and now it felt like she had ripped his heart out.
