Nadia opened her eyes, looking around. She was sitting in the library, where she had been before she was arrested. Looking around, she noticed that she was sitting at a low table with pillows around it as chairs, and across from her was a man.
In his eyes, he held knowledge. Power. Strength. And he knew it. A man who had short medium brown hair and dark brown eyes. He had features uncannily similar to Nadia’s, including olive skin. Except for the fact that he had dark brown eyes, and Nadia had medium, they could easily be father and daughter.
She knew immediately who this was. “We finally meet.” Nadia quietly stated.
“So we do.” He studied her carefully, a neutral expression on his face. “Cyrus wanted me to speak with him. I, however, dislike him immensely. I supposed it was better to speak to you rather than him.” Fate sounded bored. Like he had better things to do than speak with his own daughter.
“I teleported out of that cell to get away from things. To get away from you. And yet…” She let the sentence trail off.
“And yet… here I am.” Fate leaned back, glancing at her tattoos. “Aren’t you a little young in the mortal world to have that many?”
“I would’ve guessed that you’d have seen them by now, after all… every threatening message you’ve sent and creating a time loop for me specifically. Oh, and orchestrating an illusion of those two kids at school. Did you just not stop to notice my tattoos?”
“No, no, I did not.” He replied, seemingly unbothered by her declarations.
“I started getting them when I was… for legal purposes, I won’t say. I bet the High Council would have a field day if I spoke my age the day I got them out loud. They probably know, of course. It’s odd that you don’t.” Nadia squinted at him, trying to see if there were any characteristics that he had that didn’t pass over to her. They looked strangely similar. It was freakish.
“Hm.” He responded, still watching her.
“If you’re not going to talk, I’m going to go. I don’t have time for people to mess with me. Bye.” Nadia huffed, standing up quickly and walking upstairs. She didn’t look back as she walked out the library doors.
She felt the presence of someone appearing beside her. “I dislike it when mortals walk away from me.” He spoke to her.
“I’m not a mortal. I’m a Keeper.” Nadia rolled her eyes at his behavior. ‘How childish can he be?’
Walking along the street, she noticed something strange: There were no people. Nothing. No one. “Wait… I thought the bracelet Roman gave to me made it impossible for you to see me.”
“In some circumstances, yes. But you were thinking about me when you teleported, and that’s how I can see you and you can see me.” He stated. They both walked at exactly the same pace.
“Why are there no people? Am I stuck in the time loop again? No… No!” She spun around, looking at her surroundings with a pounding heart.
Fate laughed, a sound that shattered any sanity left in her. “Mortals are so gullible. Even my own blood. How disgusting.”
“I demand you release me.” She spoke quietly, her voice trembling. Nadia knew that Roman was right. He couldn’t help her now. This was her own fault.
“Ah, there’s that fear. I noticed it when I killed your so-called “parents”.” He mimed quotation marks with his fingers. “And when I put you in the time loop. I DO love some terror. And, of course, making your aunt die. Over. And over. Again. Until your sense of morality was broken. And your grief was raw, like an open wound. Every day. For the rest of your pathetic life.” His lips twisted into a sneer.
He waved his hand, a giant black hole appearing in the sky. Through it emerged… Night Wraiths.
‘NO! What did Roman say? Oh, yeah… that they don’t like people interrupting the flow of time. And last time I saw them, they almost killed me. Oh. No.’ Nadia backed up, watching as they circled above them, waiting to strike.
“I’m tired of keeping you alive. I tried being kind and put you in the loop to at least have some kind of life without interfering with mine. But now that you’ve caused so much trouble, I guess I have to eliminate you.”The Wraiths began to circle like vultures, waiting to tear into their prey.
Energy pulsed up into the air, shielding Nadia from the Wraiths. She glanced behind her, and there, waiting, were Roman and Rosa. They stood, Roman in front of Rosa, with his hands wide open and working hard at keeping the force field intact.
Nadia was so happy to see them. It was such a bad decision for her to run away. And then she ended up playing right into Fate’s hands.
Fate smiled, his eyes wild. “I’ll kill you. I’ll kill you all!” He roared, making a symbol with his hands and sending a ball of light straight at Roman.
Nadia screamed. Tears flooded her eyes. She heard someone fall to the ground behind her, but that was it. Light gave way to darkness, and rage like never before encompassed her entire being. She WAS rage. Agony and a burning sensation flooded her senses, and her hands on impulse formed a series of symbols. The symbols created a giant spear, sharp enough to impale even the most fearsome of beasts.
Fate saw the spear and waved his hand, presumably to make it disappear. His eyes widened when it didn’t work. “How-”
She hurled it straight at him, not even stopping to think of the consequences. All she could think of was Fate. He had killed Roman. And she would kill him.
The spear went straight through him, and Fate gasped, looking down. He staggered back, blood the color of starlight spilling down him in a waterfall of blood. The weapon had impaled his stomach, and he was completely immobile.
She ran over to him, her rage clearing. Tears streamed down her cheeks. Fate fell to his knees, looking up at her. “Come here.” He whispered. She had no time for suspicion.
Nadia leaned down, closer to him. “I will despise you even in death.” And plunged a blade into her chest. Light filled her vision. She could faintly see that he had fallen completely to the ground, eyes wide open. His time was gone. The sands of his life had filled the lower half of the hourglass. He was dead.
She blinked, her heart rate slowing down. She reached down, only to feel a massive amount of blood. It was everywhere. Nadia heaved a breath and heard someone groan in agony.
“No. NO! I won’t lose you too.” As she collapsed to the ground, her sight fading, Nadia felt herself floating. And then darkness filled her entirety.
