S A M M Y

It was the weekend, and Mum had just asked us whether we wanted to go with her to Luke's house. I obviously agreed since I was bored at home. I had finished reading 'The Burning Maze' by Rick Riordan yesterday. The next book in the series wouldn't be released until 2019. Now I don't have any new books to read. I might start watching a TV series, or a movie series.

"Noah, Kyle, are you two coming?" Mum asked my brothers.

Noah as usual didn't answer, Kyle however shook his head, "Nah, can't be asked Mum."

Mum rolled her eyes at Kyle's choice of vocabulary. I don't know why he thinks it's cool to talk like that. Because it really isn't.

"Sammy and I will be back soon. So don't go setting the house on fire," Mum warned.

"Like we'd ever," Kyle scoffed.

Kyle was... well, I'm not exactly sure what he was doing. It kind of looked like he was meditating, I guess. If you haven't guessed yet, Kyle is the weird one in the family. You know, you always have that one kid, who seems to be born wrong side up. And that kid is definitely Kyle.

Noah however was on his laptop, busily typing away.

They were both on the living room sofa. One lying on his stomach, wrapped in blankets, like a human burrito with his laptop on the sofa, while the other, he had candles surrounding him, as if he was going to call on the dead or something, despite the fact that it was light outside.

"Let's get going Sammy," Mum said.

For the first time in forever, I got to sit next to Mum on the passenger seat. Usually, it's Kyle who gets to sit there, and I'm forced to sit next to Noah. Thinking of Kyle just makes me laugh, he literally puts up a fight to sit next to Mum, when Noah and I hardly care where we sit. Well... I used to care. But not anymore, he can have that seat, if he really wants it. Our fights usually go like this...

"I'm sitting next to Mum," Kyle yelled at us. He ran out of the house, and swung open the car door and bounced onto the seat. Once Noah and I got into the car, we sat on the remaining seats behind him. Kyle turned around and stuck his tongue out at us, "I won, losers."

I pulled a face at him while Noah said, "You were only competing against yourself."

Kyle pointed his fingers at us and wiggled it. "Hah! Don't act like you didn't want to sit here. I can read minds you know."

"As if," I scoffed. "You're the only ten-year-old here."

"How hypocritical," Kyle said. "You're ten Sammy."

"I'm not ten. And you know it!"

Kyle squinted his eyes at me, "are you sure? You look about ten."

Mum snapped her fingers in Kyle's face, "turn around Mister. No more of that and put your seat belt on."

.  .  .

"We're here Sammy," Mum said breaking me out of my thoughts. I hopped out of her black Mercedes, while Mum locked it up.

Before I even got the chance to ring the doorbell, Luke opened the door. I guess he was waiting for us or something.

"Hi Sammy," Luke smiled. He looked around, over my head, "Are your brothers here?"

"Nope," I said, placing an emphasis on the 'P'. "They're too lazy."

Luke grinned, "come on in."

I walked past him, as he turned to greet Mum. I walked into the living room and saw Lilia and Fae with bowls of popcorn and blankets over them, sitting on the sofa.
