My father the Sultan asked us all to come closer to him, he urgently needed to meet with us, Malhum stood a few meters away from where we were with the other servants of our dynasty, and it was there and only there that the Sultan said a few words:

- As you and I know, there has been corruption in the kingdom for a long time, but now there are traitors among us.

Murad: And who are the suspects, father?Sultan: Only two people were aware of the war plans: Prime Minister Davut Pasha and Minister of War Hassan Pasha.

I intervened- But how can we get close to them?

Sultan: The only way to get close to them is through marriage.

Halime: Marriage? Are you suggesting that one of us marry one of them?

Sultan: That's right, Halime. It's an extreme measure, but necessary.

Murad: But who among us should do it?

Sultan: That's a decision we must make together. We must consider all possibilities and choose the best option for our empire.

My aunt expressed her opinion: "Davud Pasha is already married. Why the need for a new marriage?"

As we debated, the Sultan kept his usual silence, reserving his words for the right moment. His wife, Canzu Sultan, intervened: "We have been following their trail for three years, but they have become so cautious that we lack evidence. What once seemed like corruption now seems much more serious."

My brother nodded: "You are right, Canzu Sultan. That is why my sister is absolutely right."

Finally, our father, the Sultan, spoke: "Marshallah, my children. My sister and my wife are right. We can offer Ayşe's hand to Davut Pasha's son and marry Hassan Pasha's only daughter to the prince."

I cannot deny that this conversation left me thinking, I have already married for the empire, but this time it is different, Davut Pashah's son is a suspect, and I know deep down that my father today spoke as a Sultan and not as a father.

As dusk fell upon the palace, the weariness of the journey became apparent. The Sultan ordered us all to retire for the night, as he was going hunting with Murad the next day.

Meanwhile, Sultana Halime and Sultana Canzu agreed to go to tea at the house of Kasim Pasha, whose wife was a close friend of theirs. Although I was invited to join, I decided to politely decline: "Tomorrow I will stay here resting, with your permission." I was angry at having to marry again for the empire, fortunately, they agreed with my decision.

Each one retired to their chambers. In my room, Meriem Hatun always slept with me, as in the palace at home. There was a small bed for her, since this palace always instilled a certain fear in me. Until I was thirteen, Murad and I shared a room because we were afraid of the dark. But it was the palace itself that awakened in me that fear of sleeping alone.

On this occasion, I did not only want company, but specifically Malhum's.When I entered the room Malhum closed the door following my orders, giving us a space and an intimacy never experienced before, but on this occasion because of the trip I wanted to clean myself up a little, I was embarrassed to ask Malhum, I asked him to please get water, soap and towels, and a new perfume that my father gave me, no I know what the perfume was but just applying it to my skin was relaxing and made me sleepy. This was the first time I was going to sleep so close to Malhum and my hands were sweating and I don't know why.
