The aftermath of the Labyrinth of Shadows was a flurry of chaos. Students staggered out of the dark, many injured, some in shock, and others missing entirely. Argent Academy had no place for the weak, and the grim reality was clear: failure meant disappearance-whether that meant death or something worse remained a mystery.

Back in the courtyard, the survivors gathered, their faces pale from the ordeal. Conversations buzzed around the grounds, rumors spreading about who had succeeded and who had fallen. Several names surfaced, but none more frequently than  Toru Saito, a Class 8-C student known for his ruthless efficiency. Toru had reportedly cleared the labyrinth in record time, taking down several other students in the process, an act that was allowed-encouraged, even-by the academy's twisted rules.

Rai Katsuro, meanwhile, remained an enigma. He stood quietly in the shade of a tall oak tree, his arms crossed as he observed the gathering with cold indifference. His performance had been flawless, yet he garnered no attention. That was how he preferred it.

Beside him, Maiya shifted uncomfortably. She had stuck close to Rai since they escaped the labyrinth, unnerved by the world of danger they were thrust into. She hadn't known Rai long, but something about him drew her in-his calm in the face of death, his dispassionate gaze. But it also terrified her. His silence was more oppressive than any spoken word.

"We barely made it," Maiya whispered, her eyes darting nervously toward the other students. "What happens next?"

Before Rai could answer, a booming voice cut through the courtyard.

"Rai Katsuro!"

All heads turned as Toru Saito strode into the center of the courtyard, flanked by a group of similarly ranked students. His confident smirk and muscular build made it clear that he was not to be trifled with. Class 8-C held a higher rank than Rai's 10-E, but it wasn't just about rank-Toru had a reputation for dominating his opponents both physically and mentally.

Maiya tensed. "This isn't good."

Rai's eyes flickered toward Toru, but he made no move to respond, his face a mask of calm.

Toru cracked his knuckles as he approached, his group spreading out in a semi-circle around Rai. "I heard some interesting things about you in the labyrinth, Katsuro. You took down a shadow beast with a single strike, didn't you? Impressive... for an E-class."

Maiya's heart pounded in her chest. She had heard of confrontations like this-upper-class students asserting their dominance over the lower ranks. It was a dangerous game, one that often left someone gravely injured or worse.

"I'm not interested in petty conflicts," Rai said coolly, his voice devoid of emotion as always.

Toru sneered, stepping closer. "Not interested? That's not how things work here, kid. You're going to have to prove yourself eventually."

The crowd around them grew silent, sensing the tension. Several students whispered amongst themselves, eagerly anticipating a confrontation. They knew Toru's reputation-he was merciless, and he never backed down from a fight.

"Back off, Toru," Maiya said, stepping in front of Rai, her voice shaky but determined. "He doesn't want any trouble."

Toru chuckled darkly. "You think I care about what he wants? You E-class weaklings don't get a say in this."

Without warning, Toru lashed out, aiming a swift punch at Rai's face. But Rai didn't flinch. In a blur of movement, he caught Toru's fist with one hand, stopping it inches from his face. The sheer speed and precision of Rai's reaction sent a ripple of shock through the onlookers.

For a moment, there was silence. Then, Rai spoke, his voice lower and colder than before.

"I told you. I'm not interested."

He let go of Toru's fist, pushing him back with such force that the larger student stumbled. The other students gasped, and a murmur spread through the crowd.

Toru's smirk vanished, replaced by a look of fury. "You think you can humiliate me like that?"

Rai remained silent, but something in the air shifted. A suffocating pressure began to build, emanating from Rai's very being. It was subtle at first, a creeping sense of dread that washed over the courtyard like a dark fog. But as Rai's eyes locked with Toru's, the aura intensified, becoming oppressive-monstrous.

Several students backed away instinctively, their faces pale as they felt the weight of Rai's presence. Maiya's breath hitched in her throat. She had never felt anything like it before-an aura so suffocating it seemed to crush the air from her lungs. It wasn't rage that radiated from Rai; it was something far more dangerous. A silent, controlled fury that he kept tightly contained.

Toru's face twitched, his bravado faltering. He clenched his fists, but he couldn't shake the feeling of impending doom that loomed over him.

"This isn't over, Katsuro," Toru snarled, taking a step back, his voice wavering slightly. "You've made an enemy today."

With that, Toru turned and stormed off, his entourage following closely behind. The oppressive aura lifted as soon as they were gone, leaving the courtyard eerily quiet.

Maiya let out a shaky breath. "What was that?" she whispered, her voice barely audible. "That... pressure... it felt like I couldn't breathe."

Rai glanced at her, his expression unreadable. "It's nothing," he said flatly, turning away.

But it wasn't nothing. Maiya had felt it, and so had everyone else. There was more to Rai Katsuro than met the eye, and now, they all knew it. His silence spoke volumes, and the monstrous aura he kept hidden within him hinted at a power far greater than anyone realized.

Meanwhile, in Class 1-A...

High above the courtyard, the instructors of Argent Academy observed the confrontation from the academy's observation tower. Daichi Ishikawa, the head instructor, watched with narrowed eyes, his fingers steepled as he leaned forward.

Beside him stood Ayane Fujiwara, the tactical advisor for the academy. She was younger than Daichi, but her sharp mind and ruthless strategies had earned her a place among the academy's elite staff.

"That boy... Rai Katsuro," Ayane said, her eyes fixed on the screen displaying the courtyard. "He's different. He held back, but that aura... it's no ordinary student's power."

Daichi nodded slowly. "Yes. There's something... dangerous about him. Keep an eye on him, Ayane. If he truly has what it takes, he might be the one to reach Level Zero."

Ayane smirked. "If he survives long enough."

Daichi's gaze darkened as he watched Rai disappear into the crowd below. Argent Academy was a place of survival, and only the strongest could ascend. Whether Rai Katsuro had the strength-or the desire-to reach the fabled Level Zero remained to be seen.

End of Chapter 2

Rai's first confrontation had revealed a glimpse of the power he kept hidden, but the academy was watching now. As tensions rise among the students and the academy staff takes notice, Rai's path to Level Zero becomes more complicated. Confrontations, both physical and psychological, are only just beginning.
