The days following the confrontation between Rai and Ichiro were heavy with an unseen tension. Word had spread quickly throughout Argent Academy-whispers of Rai's cold refusal to support his class, of Ichiro's helplessness under the pressure of his monstrous aura, and of the brewing storm from Toru Saito's camp. For many, this was the beginning of a silent war, a battle fought not with swords, but with influence, strategy, and manipulation.
Rai Katsuro sat alone in the academy's sprawling library, a vast space filled with towering shelves of ancient texts and scrolls. He leafed through a thick tome on historical strategies, but his mind was elsewhere. The interclass event was approaching rapidly, and though he tried to remain indifferent, the thought of Toru's vendetta lingered.
Across the room, Maiya watched him from a distance, biting her lip in frustration. Despite his cold demeanor, she had come to care about Rai-not just for his abilities, but for the person hidden behind that emotionless mask. She knew he wasn't as detached as he appeared.
She finally worked up the courage to approach him.
"Rai," she said softly, sliding into the chair opposite him. "I know you don't want to get involved, but... they're coming for us. For the whole class. You can't just stay out of it forever. "
Rai didn't lift his eyes from the page. "I told you. I have no interest in their games. "
Maiya's frustration bubbled over. "This isn't just a game! This is our survival we're talking about. Do you really not care what happens to the rest of us? "
At this, Rai finally looked up, his cold, unreadable gaze meeting hers. "Why should I? I don't owe anyone anything. "
Maiya's eyes widened, hurt flashing across her face. She had known he was distant, but to hear him speak so callously was more than she expected.
Before she could respond, the door to the library swung open, and in walked Ichiro Takeda, flanked by several other students from Class 10-E. His expression was hard, determined.
"Katsuro," Ichiro called out, his voice firm but not hostile. "We need to talk. "
Rai's expression didn't change, but he leaned back slightly in his chair, as if already bored by the conversation.
"What is it this time? " he asked, his tone flat.
Ichiro stepped closer, his hands balled into fists at his sides. "We've decided to fight. Toru's not going to stop until he humiliates all of us, so we're going to take the fight to him. We know we don't stand a chance without you. "
The group of students behind Ichiro nodded in agreement, their faces a mix of determination and fear. They knew they were walking into a battle they couldn't win alone.
Rai didn't move. "I'm not interested."
Ichiro gritted his teeth, the tension between them rising again. "This isn't about you anymore, Katsuro. If you don't help us, we're going to get crushed. You may not care about yourself, but what about them? "
He gestured to the students behind him-young faces, each showing the strain of the academy's brutal trials. Maiya, who was still seated across from Rai, looked at him pleadingly.
For a moment, something flickered in Rai's eyes, but it was gone before anyone could truly see it. He closed the book in front of him with a soft thud and stood up.
"I'll give you a piece of advice," Rai said coldly. "Don't get involved in fights you can't win."
He brushed past Ichiro and the others, heading for the door. But before he could leave, Ichiro spoke again, his voice filled with a different kind of determination.
