"Can you make this quick, I need to keep fighting. You've literally dragged me out of a war which, I'm not sure if you've noticed yet, we kind of need to win to keep our school, our happiness and maybe our lives!" Alex hissed furiously

"Alex, please, stop it. This-this is important for me to tell you because...because someone could get hurt if I don't. Some could get hurt if I do, but that's not the point. If I don't, it'll just build up and get worse, and you'll be oblivious, and you-you shouldn't be oblivious to it."

"Spit it out!" Alex snapped. Adam stuttered, gulped and mumbled for a bit, before Alex turned away and huffed "Forget it!"

"Alex, wait! I'll tell you, it's just hard" Adam didn't even smirk at himself as he grabbed Alex's left sleeve and spun him round.

"You better tell me fucking quick"

"I will! I-"

"I haven't got time for this!"

"I love you!"

Alex froze. Never had he been more silent in his life. Never had that much emotion flashed across his face in that little time. The words seemed to linger in the air like a strong body spray, but it was much worse. They both stood staring at each other, it might've been months passing with them staring, terrified of what the other was going to say.

"What?" Alex gulped

"I don't know when it started. But that Hogsmeade visit, it seems months ago now, the shop assistant thought we were together, and I kept noticing little quirks you had and how much I loved them. I mean, I was still with Chloe, obviously, but I didn't feel what I had felt in the past for her. I felt more for you than her. I know you probably don't feel the same way as me, but I just wanted you to know. You know I said I was distracted by someone, and that's why I broke up with her? It was you. I was distracted by you. I don't know, I shouldn't have told you this. It'll just make everything more awkward with us. Look, you don't have to feel the same for me, but just say this won't change our friendship." The words flooded out of Adam's mouth, a herd of bulls stampeding from his mouth, crushing their past friendship.

"I don't know if I can promise that, Adam." Alex stated, near emotionless, yet his voice cracked at the end. "You're one of my best mates, I-I don't think I want to change that." He sighed.

"I understand. Sorry for wasting your time." Adam said shakily, almost sobbing.

"Come here." Alex said, pulling the lanky, upset man into a hug. "You're going to find someone else...You'll be over me in no time, okay?" Alex said. Adam nodded. They pulled out of the hug.

"I'm off back to fight...Good luck out there." Alex mumbled, wandering back out.

Adam felt indescribable. He had broken up with his 3 and a half year girlfriend to be turned down. Why did Alex reject him? Was he not good enough? Was Alex in love with someone else? Did he know then? Were they in the group? All these questions, and more, flew around Adam's head. They buzzed in his head, like hundreds of flies at once, he was surprised passers by couldn't hear the noise of them. He stumbled out of the castle, preparing himself to battle the Death Eaters once more. Yet he was in no right mindset to start fighting, when he was fighting his own mental battle. He didn't know which battle was going to win first, or if he was going to win either battles.
