One by one, each maid entered Dr. Thompson's office, wincing in pain and fear. Sophia was the first to arrive, her face pale and her eyes welling up with tears.
"Doctor, I'm in so much pain... my belly hurts... I think I might have hurt my baby..." she whispered, her voice trembling.
Dr. Thompson looked up from his notes, his expression darkening with anger. "What did I tell you about stress and fighting? You're putting your baby's life at risk!"
Sophia trembled, "I-I'm sorry, Doctor... we were arguing... and then we started pushing each other... I didn't mean to..."
Dr. Thompson's voice rose, "You didn't mean to? You didn't mean to?! You're carrying a precious life inside you and you're treating it like a playground!"
Next, Rachel arrived, clutching her belly and crying out in pain. "Doctor, please... help me... the pain is unbearable..."
Dr. Thompson's anger only intensified. "You're experiencing contractions? You're lucky you didn't induce labor! What were you thinking?"
Maria came in, holding her stomach and looking sheepish. "Doctor, I'm so sorry... I didn't mean to hurt my baby... we were just arguing..."
Dr. Thompson's expression turned red with rage. "Arguing?! You call that arguing?! You were fighting like animals! What if you'd hurt each other or worse, your babies?"
Finally, Emma arrived, tears streaming down her face. "Doctor, please... forgive me... I don't want to lose my baby... I'll do anything..."
Dr. Thompson's anger slowly gave way to disappointment and concern. "Emma, I'm going to do everything I can to help you and your baby. But you all need to learn to prioritize your health and your children's well-being."
As each maid left the office, they felt a mix of emotions: fear, guilt, and a deep regret for their actions.
Dr. Thompson visited each chamber, examining the bellies of the maids. Sophia's belly was still tender, but the baby was okay.
"Thank goodness," Dr. Thompson said, relieved. "But, Sophia, you need to rest and avoid stress. No more fighting."
Sophia nodded, tears in her eyes. "I'm so sorry, Doctor. I was wrong to fight."
Next, Dr. Thompson visited Rachel's chamber. Her belly was contracting, and the baby's heart rate was elevated.
"This is not good," Dr. Thompson said, frowning. "Rachel, you're at risk for preterm labor. I need to monitor you closely."
Rachel's eyes widened in fear. "Oh no, Doctor! What can I do?"
Dr. Thompson's expression was stern. "You can start by following my orders and resting. No more stress, no more fighting."
Maria's belly was still sore, but the baby was fine. However, Dr. Thompson noticed something concerning.
"Maria, your blood pressure is elevated. I need to keep an eye on you."
Maria looked worried. "Is everything okay, Doctor?"
Dr. Thompson's expression was serious. "It will be if you follow my orders and take care of yourself."
Finally, Dr. Thompson visited Emma's chamber. Her belly was severely bruised, and the baby's heart rate was irregular.
"This is a disaster," Dr. Thompson said, his voice shaking with anger. "Emma, you've put your baby's life at risk. I need to take you to the hospital immediately."
Emma burst into tears. "Oh no, Doctor! I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to hurt my baby!"
Dr. Thompson's face was red with anger. "You should have thought of that before you started fighting! Now, let's go!"
As Dr. Thompson left each chamber, he couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions: anger, disappointment, and concern for the well-being of the maids and their babies.
With Emma and Rachel on bed rest, the workload fell heavily on Maria and Sophia. They struggled to keep up with the demanding tasks, exhausted and overwhelmed.
Maria sighed, wiping the sweat from her forehead. "I don't know how much more of this I can handle. We're doing the work of four people."
Sophia nodded, her eyes red from lack of sleep. "I know. I'm so tired, but we can't afford to make mistakes."
The two maids trudged through their duties, their movements slow and labored. They stumbled over their own feet, and their minds felt foggy.
As they worked, Dr. Thompson kept a close eye on them, concerned about their well-being.
"Maria, Sophia, I know it's tough, but you're doing great. Just a little longer, and we'll get through this," he encouraged.
But despite his words, the workload only seemed to grow. The other two maids were struggling to recover, and Maria and Sophia were at their breaking point.
One day, as they were serving lunch, Maria's hands trembled, and she dropped a tray of food.
"Oh no!" Sophia cried, rushing to help. "Maria, are you okay?"
Maria's eyes welled up with tears. "I'm so sorry, Sophia. I just can't do this anymore."
Dr. Thompson appeared, his face stern. "What's going on here?"
Sophia explained, "Maria's just overwhelmed, Doctor. We're doing too much."
Dr. Thompson's expression softened. "I see. Well, we'll figure something out. You two are doing the best you can, and that's all I can ask for."
But as the days went by, it became clear that something had to change. The workload was unsustainable, and the maids were paying the price.
