It has been two days since the incident occurred, and since then, His Majesty has been even busier with his duties. I haven't spoken to him since, and even if the opportunity arose, I would rather not. His demeanor has been overwhelming, but I cannot allow myself to be swayed by it. It's crucial, our relationship must remains formal, grounded in respect and distance.
I had just left the palace, riding in a carriage with Sarah. We were on our way to visit my clothing store, which had recently gained fame for its unique designs. I was even planning to expand by opening more branches, which meant I needed to meet with Mr. Charlie, the tailor I entrusted with the operations of my business.
Soon enough, we arrived at our destination and headed straight to my store. As we stepped inside, a saleswoman approached us with a respectful and graceful demeanor. "Good day, ladies. How may I assist you?" she inquired politely. I pulled my cloak down slightly, ensuring my face was mostly hidden from view.
"I would like to meet with Mr. Charlie," I said, my voice calm and composed. The saleswoman hesitated for a moment, studying me, before nodding in understanding. "Of course, milady. Please follow me," she replied. She led us to a door on the second floor of the building, knocking gently.
"Mr. Charlie, you have visitors," she called out, her voice loud enough to be heard through the door.
A few seconds passed before the door opened, revealing Mr. Charlie, his expression warm and welcoming. He always had a sweet, calm demeanor that put others at ease.
"Mr. Charlie," I greeted him, keeping my voice steady. His eyes widened slightly in recognition.
"Your Majesty! Please, do come in!" he exclaimed, his tone full of delight. He gestured for us to enter, and I walked in with Sarah by my side. Edward, remained outside to watch over the building.
We settled into the plush sofas, and as expected, Mr. Charlie quickly served us tea and cookies. He always knew how to make guests feel welcome. His easygoing nature made him someone people liked to work with.
Once we were comfortably seated, I decided to get to the point. "I came here for a reason," I began, my voice calm but firm. Mr. Charlie nodded eagerly, a bright smile on his face.
"And what would that be, Your Majesty?" he asked, maintaining his respectful tone, though his curiosity was clear.
"I want to expand the business and open more branches," I declared. Sarah, standing beside me, placed a small but ornate wooden box on the table-it was slightly larger than usual and filled with gold coins.
Shock flashed across Mr. Charlie's face as he processed my words. "Your Majesty, that's an absolutely brilliant idea!" he exclaimed, his voice filled with excitement. I couldn't help but smirk at his enthusiasm, he was always obedient and eager to please.
The meeting with Mr. Charlie stretched on, discussing details and plans, and by the time we concluded, night had already fallen.
We were now making our way back to the carriage when I suddenly gasped in shock-someone had pulled me into the crowd. I resisted the force of his grip, my heart pounding in my chest. I looked back toward Sarah's direction, but she hadn't noticed my sudden disappearance. Panic slowly crept in, and I fought harder to free myself from the man's grasp, but his hold was unyielding, his grip firm and deliberate. I winced, glaring at him as he dragged me further from the crowd. The man was cloaked, his face hidden in shadows.
