Castiel held his hands up to the concentrating raptors, each singling out the new meal as their own. Cas swallowed the lump in his throat and whispered a hoarse "Dean."

Dean walked around the corner looking for his tool but it was nowhere to be found. "Hey Charlie, wher-"
"DEAN, MR. NOVAK'S IN THE RAPTOR CAGE! SAVE HIM!"
Dean whipped around to see the raptors circling his boss. "Shit," he exclaimed as he ran up the stairs to stand above the pack.

"C'mon, I'm just skin and bones, fellas," Castiel tried to reason with the dinosaurs. Charlie snapped her sharp teeth together at him. "Fuck!"
Dean vaulted over the bar and landed in the circle, facing Charlie, Echo, and Delta. All the raptors panicked and started yapping, thinking of finally biting.

"Hey, hey, hey guys, calm down." Dean stuck his arm out, his hand up, and the other arm motioning backwards. "Back it up, guys. You know the drill." Three of the raptors began backing up cautiously, turning their heads so one eye could see where they were backing up to.
"Dean." The name left Castiel's lips shakily as the snort of the remaining dinosaur blew his hair. Blue sniffed the meal in front of her and found it appealing.
"C'mon, listen... Listen, girl. Back up." Dean started walking back towards Cas and Blue. She pulled her head back curiously which gave Dean the opportunity to slide between the two, with his back pressed up against Castiel.
That made Cas feel a lot safer, but when he heard laughing he looked up and saw Blue give Dean a sloppy lick on the cheek, getting a noogie in return.
"Good job guys, you got him!" Dean praised his raptors.

They all happily ran back into the forest and Cas gawked at the scene. "You trained them to do that?"
"Yep! And if I wasn't here, they would've eaten you alive. I'm the only human they accept in their life. I'm their alpha. Now, say, if they were in that arena. Something goes wrong and a kid falls in, and I can't get out there, what then?"

Cas turned around and left the place in rage, shouting over his shoulder, "You made me look like a fool, Winchester!"
"Hey, you did that yourself! Don't go places you aren't welcome!"
All the workers around started clapping for Dean and he waved his arms for them to stop, following Cas through the gate.
"I'm the head director, and when alarms go off, I have to check them! Now, I have a park to run. Fix those vermin or I will." Cas unlocked his car and opened the door, which Dean pushed closed again. He exploded with anger in cas' face and cas just took it.
"They are not vermin, you motherfucker! They are the best raptors - the best sisters I've ever had! And I still haven't gotten a damn thank you for saving your fucking life! I could've let them eat your useless ass and none of us would've said a damn word 'cause no one cares about you! The only reason I helped you is because it would look bad on my part if I didn't. And I need my job, unlike someone who was given everything in life on a silver platter!"
Castiel stood there and let Dean take his rage out. Everyone was watching as he laid down his wrath onto Cas. When Dean was done, Cas looked up and gave a faint chuckle.
"You... You know what? I'm sorry. I'm sorry for doing my job, sorry for trying my hardest to keep everyone here happy. It's hard being on a budget smaller than shit and not laying anyone off, y'know! They want the new attraction, Dean! Not me! I hate dinosaurs, okay? I said it! I fucking hate dinosaurs but I'm good at my job, so it's what I have to do. I just piss people off! I'm hated no matter what I do! If I say yes, the guys downstairs hate me! If I say no, the guys upstairs hate me! I can't make everyone happy, Dean! No, I can't make anyone happy! Maybe that's why my relationships are so bad!"
At this point Dean knew that Cas was having a breakdown. He let him keep ranting and getting his anger out. "You know, everyone thinks I'm this uptight dick who hates everyone! I wasn't always like that; I was fun! I didn't have grey hair at twenty-five! I shouldn't be this hated, I'm only doing my job!" He scoffed at himself. "That's always my excuse. I've never had another excuse, because working is all I've done with my miserable life! I hate this job, I hate dinosaurs, I hate my life! But whatever keeps the food on the table, right? I wanted to go farther than that, trying to put a little more than food on the table. Then I'm seen as the guy who makes all the damn money in this shit hole island! I need this money too, Dean! Just like you or them! But you all think I'm a dick!
"I am sorry. What else do you want me to do? Do you want me not to cut checks? If we don't you will all lose your jobs. We'll lose the park and have to put all the dinosaurs down! Then who'll be blamed? Me! I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, okay? I'm so-"
Cas choked up when he felt someone wrap their arms around him. Hugs were foreign to him; the touch of someone actually showing affection to him. He didn't turn around to see who it was, he didn't care. It was the first act of kindness he'd been shown since he gotten on the island.
"Thank you," he mumbled as he left their arms. He turned around to smile at the person and was surprised to see who it was.
''Hey, we all have bad days. And maybe sometimes people form an idea of who you are just by what you do. I know I did, and I apologize." Charlie gave him a small smile and stuck her hand out for a handshake. "Can we restart?"
Cas looked down at her hand, then at her. He didn't know if she was serious, but it took guts for her to do that. With a smile he took her hand and gave it a shake. "I'm Castiel Novak."
Nobody knew what to do so they all walked over to "meet" Cas, everyone except Dean. He had left and was already in the cage cleaning up Blue. Poor thing still had rat bits in her mouth and the others were yipping at her, jealous.
To be quite honest, Dean was still pissed. For someone to go up to him and say something like that about his raptors? And then expect him to comply with doing a fucking pet show? No way in hell. Dean still refused to do the exhibit. He just sighed and shook that thought out of his head.
When he got done he left the cage and closed the gate. Castiel noticed him leaving and watched sadly as he got in his Impala and left. The high dust cloud he kicked up was the sign of how disapproving Dean was of him.
Charlie talked with Cas for a while. She was slightly offended that he disliked dinosaurs, so she set a goal for herself to get him to love them.
Cas was overwhelmed by all the new friends he made, each having their own story for him to remember them by. One guy was a veteran, one girl was a really talented artist, and there was someone who use to model when they were young. The workers were all just so unique and special.
He wasn't even thinking about how late it had gotten until people started to leave.
"Where does everyone live on this island?"
"There's a community trailer park on the east side of the island and most of us live there," Charlie explained.
"Most?"
"Yeah, Dean took his trailer to a secluded part of the island after what..." She stopped and shrugged. "He wanted to be alone and he's been there ever since. No one knows where it's at. He wouldn't even tell me." Charlie stretched and smiled. "It's 'bout time I got home too. Goodnight, Mr. Novak."
"Please, call me Cas."
"Haha, okay, Cas." She giggled, got into her sun yellow Pinto, and drove off.
Cas stayed around a little longer to look around. The pile of sleeping raptors lay in the center of the cage. He shuddered at the thought of them. They were vile things, dinosaurs. They were always hungry and whiny and breaking things. Like kids. He gave one last look towards the cage and noticed a pigeon fly up to the top of the habitat in a little crevice, and something glistened. "No way."
He stacked up boxes for about half an hour to finally get up there, and sure enough, a pair of motorcycle keys had been built into the nest. "You are a very bad bird." The pigeon looked at him and squawked.
Cas left the place and went home with a smile and a reason to talk to Dean the next day.
Castiel was rather enjoying his long drive home. He leaned into the curves and bends and smiled happily. That day had went great. Total turnaround. Couldn't have been better. He was humming the Jurassic World theme song and tapping his thumbs on the steering wheel when his car beeped, signaling that he was receiving a phone call. It was Ms. Naomi, his boss.
"Ms. Naomi. It's late, are you okay?"
"Oh, shut up and listen will you?"
"Yes, ma'am."
"Look, this exhibit needs to happen! Why haven't you gotten Winchester to sign yet?"
"Well, because-"
"I don't want to hear your excuses! Listen, the exhibit will be ready in four months. You have until then to get him to sign. And as someone of your appearance, you could use them to your advantage"
"... Excuse me?"
"Here's the thing. Dean is... Let's call him an omnivore. You get what I'm saying?"
"Uh... I think so?" Castiel raised his eyebrow, glancing at the screen on his dash.
"Good. Because if you get to know him better..."
"Are suggesting I have relations with Mr. Winchester to get him to sign the deal?"
"I don't care what you have. Just get in there, make him fall head over heels for you, and your job will be a lot easier."
"You don't really expect me to do this right?"
"If you don't, you will lose your job, and more than that if you don't have an extra source of income."
Cas sighed and gripped the steering wheel as he parked in front of his home.
"Fine. I'll do it. But-"
"No buts! Just get it done!" Naomi hung up and Cas hit his steering wheel. Just as things were starting to look up. Dean already hated him, and getting him to like him this much? Cas went inside and didn't go to sleep that night; his mind was too busy with thoughts.
