I'm walking on sunshine, oh oh oh. I'm walking on sunshine, oh oh oh.
A hand reached out from under a Lord of the Rings blanket and smacked the Boba Fett alarm clock. "Ugh, I need to change that alarm."
Charlie Bradbury was the biggest nerd on the island. Her trailer was small, but filled with Comic-Con goodies, signed action figures, collector's edition posters, and mint condition props from TV shows. She had it going pretty good in her opinion.
Before Jurassic World, Charlie lived in a small apartment with her mom and dad. Her dad was a zoo keeper and her mom was a daycare worker. When Charlie was in school she would dream of being the world's best cosplay queen. Her dad took her to her first Comic-Con when she was 6 and it changed her life forever. What used to be horses and Barbies was now stay-in-box Spiderman action figures and The Hobbit posters. Her room was the gaming epicenter of the house and she refused to let any nieces, nephews, or even cats into her room by age 9.
She never really got along with anyone on the subject because nobody around was very interested in Star Wars or Marvel. She didn't care much, though. She had plenty of online friends who were as crazy about Han Solo as her. Charlie would tell her parents about her friends all the time, and eventually her mother sat her down and told her that she needed to make some friends here. One of the daycare moms invited Charlie to her daughter's sleepover. Charlie begged not to go, and her dad thought it was a dumb idea, but her mom insisted; she said it would help Charlie be more social.
That night when Charlie went to the girl's house, she didn't get along with anyone. Then, to make things worse, it started to rain. Charlie never minded the rain. It was the thunder that was the problem. It always scared her. No matter what, if one little crack of thunder came down, she would be terrified. She called home, crying and begging to leave. Her dad told her mom that enough was enough, and they were going to go pick Charlie up. Her dad called her on the cellphone they gave her when she went out anywhere, but she didn't have it on.
Her dad left a message: "Hey, Leia. Han here calling from the Death Star. Me and Chewy are coming to get you and I promise we will never leave you at Jabba's palace again. I promise. Miss you, and we'll be over there as soon as I can to rescue the princess. Love you, baby girl."
That night, her parents were in a car wreck that killed them both. Charlie didn't know what was going on. All she remembered was waiting all night at a stranger's house for her parents, then her aunt Sylvia coming to pick her up the next morning.
People, so many people at her house, and yet no one said anything. When she was sat down by her grandmother and told what happened, she didn't want to believe it. She ran upstairs to her room and slammed the door. Charlie turned around to see her nephew, about 4 years old, playing with opened packages of her action figures. Apparently someone thought that it would be okay if they put kids in her room, and he had opened most of her collectables, and even chewed on some. Charlie let out a scream for her parents, and that's when she realized they were really gone.
She sold most of the toys her nephew had ruined, but kept the first one her dad had ever bought her; a 1976 Wonder Woman action figure with wristlets. It was the greatest thing her dad gave her. It had the greatest memories.
Charlie moved in with her aunt and her terrible nephew a couple states over. She studied animal science like her dad, but in high school, the news announced that in a year or two, dinosaurs would roam the earth again. That caught her interest, and she decided to go to college for paleontology instead.
She was invited to the Jurassic World Island as an intern, along with 12 other honor students. She only spoke to one other intern, because they both happened to wear the same Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle shirt the on first day.
Kevin Tran was the coolest guy she had ever met. They got along on so many topics and were nearly inseparable. When the two got promoted to helping out at the T-Rex exhibit, they were ecstatic. It was awesome, and they helped with anything they could everyday.
One day, the CEO - Naomi, everyone called her. Well, truthfully, everyone called her a bitch behind her back, but that's not important - wanted the T-Rex to be more interactive with the audience. If they had a T-Rex that could do tricks, it would get more money, she said.
Kevin went into the T-Rex's cage to place her meal in there. Meanwhile, Naomi ordered for the Rex to be zapped, this way it could learn by habit. All the workers disagreed and said it was a bad idea, but she said they would all lose their jobs otherwise.
So they shot an electric charge from a high-voltage taser at the T-Rex, but all it did was piss her off. She saw Kevin in the cage and turned on him. Kevin tried to run, but according to Naomi, he wasn't fast enough. But Charlie was sure that on terrible day she saw Naomi shut the gate.
The loss of Kevin hit everyone hard, but Charlie the most. Naomi killed her best friend, and Charlie couldn't even speak up or she would lose her job.
She transferred to working with raptors after the T-Rex was put down. Her first day was the worst without her best friend, but this tall, green eyed, classic-rock-loving guy showed her everything she needed to know.
They easily became friends. Dean was pretty cool. He was a simple guy who said he moved from Kansas for a new start (he never told a soul he was co-owner of Jurassic World. That would never happen). They talked about all kinds of things, and Charlie smiled again.
There came a rather bad moment in Charlie's life where she hit a bad patch. Her parents were dead, her best friend just died, and one night an awful storm came to the island. Dean knew about Charlie's fear of thunder, so he drove to visit her. He found her in her trailer, curled up listening to some voice message and mumbling "I'm sorry" over and over.
Charlie blamed herself for her parent's death. Dean felt bad, and told her that it wasn't her fault. It was raining that night, and no one could have prevented what happened.
That was what made her and Dean so close. From then on she always stayed close to him. She told him about what Naomi did, but he said it was best to stay quiet about it until they found video proof. They found out that the recording of that night was wiped, so it was easy to assume that Naomi had something to do with it.
Charlie improved over the years and all of her days at Jurassic World were a lot better.
She grabbed a quick bowl of frosted wheat cereal and made her way to work, like usual, pulling in by Dean's car and smiling to him as she got out. "Morning, bitch."
"Someone's in a good mood. Hey, wanna help me give the 4 lizards a bath? They rolled around in the mud in their cages again."
"Miss out on that? No way. Of course I wanna help!"
Dean motioned for her to follow as he grabbed hoses and buckets. "Now, you will be behind the bar with the hose, and you need to mist them. If you spray them, the -"
"They will get startled and try to bite your face off, I know," Charlie finished for him. "We've done this before."
"Alright, Dino Expert. C'mon," Dean mixed the soapy water in the bucket and called Blue over first. The raptor trotted over and looked at him.
Click click click-click.
Blue stood still and looked at a target that Dean set for her to concentrate on while she got her bath. "Okay, I need mist."
Charlie opened the hose and sprayed it into the air and it fell on Blue like rain. Dean started to scrub away dirt gently and in a few minutes he was done. Charlie gave a final rinse and Dean sent the dino away.
Charlie (the raptor, not the person) came next, then Delta, and finally Echo. When they were all done, Charlie smirked and sprayed Dean with the hose. While she laughed, Dean walked over to the bars and splashed her with the bucket of soapy, dirty water. She stopped and laughed, yelling at Dean, "No fair! That's soap!"
"Totally fair, you have the hose! You can rinse yourself off."
"Just get out of there before I dump fish bits on you and you become raptor chow."
"Okay, okay, I'm coming," Dean laughed and exited the cage. He sat on a table in the sun to dry off as he and Charlie talked.
"You know, my birthday is coming up," Charlie mentioned.
Dean sat up, smiling "Oh, really? I had no idea."
"Oh, you knew. I wanted to tell you that I don't want a big party this year. I just want you and me to watch Star Wars all night and eat frozen yogurt."
"Sounds like a good birthday to me. I'll bring the coffee liquor."
"You're the best, Dean Winchester."
"I get that a lot."
"Pssh, whatever. Hey, it's Sunday. You know what that means."
"Y'all still have that huge-ass meal in the trailer park?" Dean guessed, running a hand through his still damp hair.
"Yes we do."
"Well, I'll try to come. What do I need to bring?"
"Your cooking is amazing. Whatever you bring will be great."
"Alright." The two hung out and talked until about 2. The park closed early on Sundays, so everyone went home to prepare their meals.
Dean was last to leave - well, almost last to leave. But a shiny new Lexus pulled up behind him and Dean groaned.
"Hey, Dean!" Castiel came by his side of the car and looked at him. Dean gripped his steering wheel and looked up with a fake sarcastic smile.
"Yes?"
"We need to talk."
