Chapter 29

Our amazing kiss is rudely interrupted by none other than dad. He runs in during the first couple seconds of the new year yelling at the top of his lungs.

"Ken! You are not allowed to be near these bad influences!" Ken pulls away from Shelby and he ignores dad as he stares into her eyes. The two smile until dad grabs Ken's arm. Ken turns towards dad and pulls away.

"No!" He yells. Dad gives him a glare, and if looks could kill, Ken would be dead.

"Jack, let's take a couple moments to calm down." Shelby's dad butts in referring to my dad's first name.

"I don't even want to talk to you! You're the one who is allowing a random pregnant girl into your home and letting your daughter date a-" Sean cuts him off from the few choice words he was about to say.

"Sir, Nicole is not a random girl. She's your daughter. And she knows the mistake she's made. It's your new wife who has put all of these opinions into your mind." Sean says calmly.

"She stopped being my daughter that night she slept around like a-"

"You need to knock it off Jack." Shelby's mom joins in the heated conversation.

"I will leave when Ken decides to come with me."

"You are not fit to be taking care of them. Kathy is verbally abusing your own little boys and Kate is being forced to defend them. I can't even see them anymore because of you! And Ken over here can't see his own girlfriend. You can see that he is falling apart without her, and you couldn't care less!" I tell, finally getting a word in.

Dad looks over at me. I mean, really looks at me. His eyes soften a second before hardening right back. "Ken, let's go." He says sternly still watching me.

"I don't want to." Ken says with tears in his eyes. He looks down at Shelby who is watching dad with a stone cold glare. "I love you Shelby." He says. She looks up to him, her face softening immediately. She smiles and I almost want to take a picture of the moment.

Click! The two look at me glaring because I just flashed the camera at them. I look to the side acting innocently and the two go back to the moment. "I love you too." She says quietly.

"I have to go with him. I need to protect the boys." He tells her. She nods hugging him tightly and he hugs back just as tightly.

"Let's go!" Dad yells at the two. I sigh loudly making sure he hears me and he sends me a scowl. I smile innocently at him and hug Ken before he leaves.

"We got a new plan to get Kathy to leave." He whispers in my ear. I pull away acting like he didn't say anything and give a wink only he can see. He gives a quick smile before turning to dad. His face hardens and he shoves past dad to the car.

When they leave, I turn to everyone. "Did he run here?" I ask with an amused expression. Shelby smiles and nods before going to her room.

"Hey Sean. It's late. Why don't you spend the night on the couch?" Her dad offers.

"Thank you sir." Sean says politely.

"Oh, stop the sir stuff. Call me Carlos." He says before leaving to his room with Shelby's mom. Wyatt also leaves, still shocked at what just happened. I walk over to the couch plopping down and resting my hand on my belly.

"You okay?" Sean asks sitting beside me.

"Yeah, I'll be okay. I just can't believe how cruel someone can be! I mean, he's just letting her so that to his sons. He's a-"

"I know. He thinks he loves her when she's just using him for his money. She's evil. She actually enjoys yelling at them. It's sick." He says truthfully.

"But how do we fix it?" I ask, looking into his eyes. His eyes wander and his face contorts thoughtfully.

"I don't know. I'll sleep on it." He tells me finally looking into my eyes. I smile and kiss him goodnight.

I usually hate school. Especially now since everyone whispers about my baby girl. But today is the first day back this year, and I'm super excited to finally see Kate and Ken. Plus Sean of course.

I jump out of Shelby's car the second the car stops and rush inside. Shelby yells after me and catches up soon after parking her car. She matches my pace but speeds up a little in anticipation of seeing Ken. We walk inside to a full school with walking zombies, unlike Shelby and me.

We all look around for Kate and Ken when I suddenly hear Shelby shriek beside me. I turn to her immediately seeing Ken have his arms wrapped around her. She looks shocked, but instantly spins around in his loose grasp and hugs him tightly.

"Aww." I accidentally say out loud. Ken glances over at me smiling, but soon turns his whole attention back towards Shelby. I see Kate walk inside and she runs towards me. I open my arms wide and am faced with a ground tackling hug. She almost makes me fall over, but loosens her grasp when she remembers I'm pregnant.

I hug her back tightly realizing how much I actually missed her. I pull back smiling. "How is it at home?" I ask her.

"Well, dad has surprisingly been a little teensy bit nicer, and has been a little more lenient on all of us. Kathy just doesn't give up though. She is still yelling around the house at the boys, but she hasn't mentioned Tommy and the doctor, so that's good."

"Aww, I feel so bad for them. Do we have a new plan?" I ask her.

"Maybe a custody battle, but that's our last resort because of how much of a hassle it is. Ken is turning eighteen next month, so he'll be able to then. Right now, we're just pointing each other's flaws out, but it doesn't seem like it's working too much."

"Ugh, this is so ridiculous. She is such a-"

"Nicole!" Sean calls out before picking me up into a hug. I giggle in his arms and he lets me down pulling away. Kate walks to my side and faces me.

"Hey, um, I'll see you later. Bye." She says before rushing off. My eyebrows furrow and I get a frown.

"Something wrong?" Sean asks looking in Kate's direction.

"Oh, it's nothing. She usually just stays to talk to me all morning." I say still frowning.

"Maybe she wants us to hang out."

"Yeah, probably. Hey, where did Ken and Shelby go?" I ask him looking around.

"They walked off holding hands talking in high pitched voices. It was kind of weird." He says shuddering. "Please tell me we won't ever talk in high pitched voices." He says acting terrified. I laugh and playfully slap his arm pulling him towards the lockers.

The entire day is amazing and I'm actually able to ignore the rumors for the day. Sean and I walk into third holding hands and we kiss before I walk to sit beside Drew who actually ignores me the entire class not asking me for answers.

The amazing day is ruined when Shelby and I pull into her parking lot.

I love this chapter, and I thought I'd put a little cliffhanger at the end! I know, I'm evil. I really hope you're all loving my book so far, because I am! I've been really free this weekend, so I got three chapters in!

Sorry for the totally cliche couple of Ken and Shelby, but oh well. I'm a little bit of a cliche person, so... You'll have to live with it.

What do you guys think about Ken coming in at perfect timing? How about how their dad handled the situation? How do you guys think they should handle the Kathy situation? And what do you all think is waiting for Shelby and Nicole?
