EJ POV
Waking up today, it was the six-month mark. Thankfully, I was off today. I got up and went to see my parents and hang out with my kids. I packed another overnight bag for the kids if my parents said they'd keep them. I was going to ask my Mom because I did not want my stepdad to know that a guy was going to be staying the night at the house with me.
Hopefully.
And he didn't need to know that it might get loud.
Hopefully.
I grabbed a muffin off the counter and headed to my parents after tossing on some comfy clothes. I knew the kids were going to have all kinds of things to tell me. Emery was talking so good now that she was two. Calloway was turning five in a week or so, and I wasn't ready to have this be his last year before he started actual big boy school with kindergarten in September. Walking into my parent's house, I called out "Good morning!" and heard two excited voices shout, 'Mommy!' and then the pitter-patter of little feet running full tilt at me. Calloway knocked me to the ground, hugging me tightly. Emery came up behind me, wrapping her arms around my neck, head on my shoulder in a hug.
"I missed you guys too!" I hugged them back.
These guys were my life. And, somehow, I knew.
I knew that Darren would treasure us. I knew he was asking more tonight than just for me to accept him.
"Good morning, sweetie." My mom kissed my head, heading for the coffee maker.
"Could I have a mug?" I asked, hopeful to break the ice with it being so early. She nodded, moving to grab another mug while I untangled myself from the children. I started moving around the kitchen, while my mom operated the TV remote to put on Saturday morning cartoons for the kids. She came back after putting on Looney Tunes for the kids and poured our two mugs full. Eggs were cooking. I had bacon in the oven, and Mom was working on setting out the plates and silverware buffet-style so everyone could grab and go sit where it was comfy.
I looked at my mom as I pulled the bacon out, and set it on a hot pad. She looked a little more awake, more able to have a small conversation.
"Hey, Mama?" She hummed in response. Not bad.
"Would you and Dad want to watch the kids again for me tonight?" I held my breath. She stopped moving and looked at me, her hand moving to her hip.
Oh no.
Danger! Danger zone!
"Well, today is actually the six months that Darren asked for, and he was hoping to come over after the kids are in bed so we could talk. But I don't want them to be there if the talk doesn't go well."
"Or too well?" She asked, raising an eyebrow. I felt my cheeks flush at the thought. It'd been over a year since I'd had sex. Probably closer to eighteen months of not being touched. I was dying for something. And not with just anyone.
With Darren.
I wanted this man. Heart body and soul.
"I think tonight could be...important. If we continue our relationship."
She smiled, turning around to stir her second cup of coffee. "I'll talk to your Dad."
Hell yeah!
The rest of the day was spent playing with the kids and wandering around my parents' property. I grabbed the newly packed overnight bag. It was close to dinner when Calloway asked if he could stay again. Because he didn't get to build his castle tall enough last night.
