PART 11

The next morning i woke up in Katie and Caitlin's bed with them both either side of me. I had obviously fallen asleep crying to myself last night, as I woke up with a wet cheek. I looked over to Caitlin and katie, who still had tear stains. I remembered what had happened last night, and my breath got caught in my throat. I went back into my bedroom, not looking at the bed, which Kyra had been unconscious in yesterday. I grabbed my phone, laptop and AirPods and went over to my beanbag. I sat there, thinking about Kyra, the tears in my eyes coming closer to the breaking point.

I grabbed Kyra's phone that we had left on the side. I knew the password as I had seen her type it in many times when I was lying on her chest. I typed it in and then went on to WhatsApp. I opened Kyra's group with charli and mini and texted them telling them what had happened. I promised that I would make a group with them on my phone so I could update them on what was going on.

I also called Kyra's mum and dad who said they would fly over with Kyra's sisters.

I decided that I should probably be prepared, so I grabbed a bag and put some snacks, 3 chargers, my laptop, Kyra's phone, both our AirPods, a pair of pyjamas for the two of us and my iPad. I wanted to make sure that I could just stay with Kyra when she woke up instead of having to go home to get stuff. I made three coffees and went to Katie and Caitlin's room, giving them their coffees and sitting in the chair that was in the corner of their room.

'El did you pack a bag incase you stay overnight?' Caitlin asked

'Yup done that' I replied 'I've told charli and mini what's happened, and called Kyra's family about it.'

'What did they say.' Katie said, still half waking up.

'They are coming over tomorrow.' I said ' I just hope I'm not at training when she wakes up.'

(Time skip)

We got in the car and drove to the hospital. Kyra didn't have any family currently in the uk so we were hoping that Caitlin and Katie could come in as well.

'Hi. I'm here for Kyra Cooney-Cross?' I said walking up to the front desk

'Hello. Yes you're in the right place. I am going to have to ask that it is only immediate family for the moment.'

'But I'm her girlfriend and the rest of her family are on a flight tomorrow. These are my adopted parents so please can one of them come in?' I pleaded the lady

'Fine you can come in but we are going to have to ask that only one other person can come in until family gets here.' She replied

'I think mini should come.' Caitlin said, Katie nodding behind her.

'I agree' I replied

'Ok may I ask how they know Kyra?' The receptionist said

'We all play for arsenal women and Kyra plays for the Matilda's along with Caitlin here. Basically before London Kyra lived in Sweden, which is still far from her family. She wasn't very old when she moved so Mini became her second mum.' I explained

'Ok i guess she can pass as family for the moment. When immediate family arrives, she will be asked to leave and you may be able to stay depending on how she feels with the family around her.'

'Ok thank you. I will not be here all the time as i have training to attend once her family gets here.' I said

'That will be fine, you can visit during the allowed hours. Her room is room 32. You may wait for the other person to go before you go down or you can go now.'

'I'll go now and Caitlin can you contact her?' I replied before asking my mum the question

'Yes i will love. Hope she's ok. Be brave for her. Love you.' Caitlin said hugging me goodbye. Katie hugged me and then i followed one of the doctors down the corridor to where Kyra was staying.

'Ok hon. Just be prepared. She has lots of machines around her as she is in a coma, but 99.99% people turn out ok' the doctor said opening her door.

'Ok thank you.' I said stepping foot in the room. I took the room filled with machines in, before my eyes ended up on her. The doctor shut the door behind me and left me to see Kyra.

I walked over to the bed, taking Kyra's hand and kissing it gently. I pulled a chair up and sat down next to her bed, keeping the grip on my hand.

A few minutes later, Mini appeared at the door, followed by a nurse who had come to check on Kyra. I walked over to mini, leaving the nurse with some space to check on Kyra.

Mini and I chatted about life, trying to forget what was currently going on.

(Two day time skip)

I stood in Heathrow arrivals waiting for Kyra's family. I had never really met them in person before, apart from at a distance during tillies marches. I had spoken to them loads of times on the phone but otherwise I didn't really know them that well. As I saw her younger sister run at me, I opened my arms out wide, ready for the emotions that was about to hit me.

'El. Please. Is she ok?' Mali asked me. I felt her voice breaking so I tightened the hug and rubbed her back.

'I don't know hon, i don't know. I hope just as much as you do. That she is ok.' I replied, a lump forming in my throat.

Mali let go of me, her eyes glistening, as I went over to hug Kyra's mum.

'Hi Ella.' She said

'Hey Jess.' I replied

'I'm so sorry hon.' She said

'Hey I'm sorry to Jess.' I replied

I walked over to jai, and Kyra's other sisters, pulling them in one by one to a hug.

I brought them back to kyra and mines before we went to the hospital so that we could eat and they could sort rooms out.

I sat in the kitchen with Jess and Jai explaining what had happened.

'Kyra seemed distant. Then we came home from training and she said that she couldn't do this anymore but she still loves me. I don't know what she meant but I still love her too so. I went back to Caitlin and Katie's. A couple of hours later, Kyra knocked on the door and I couldn't talk to her there infront of my parents so I went upstairs and was going to go back down in a sec. Then I heard Caitlin shouting at her because Kyra had promised not to break my heart. Kyra just started crying, so I got her to come upstairs, where we stood hugging. I was hugging her from the back and she felt like she could have fallen at any minute. And and and-' I started crying.

'Then it happened?' Jess asked to which I nodded.

'Hey hon it's ok. We love you.' Jai said.

'We better get going to the hospital then.' Jess said pulling me into a hug.

'Girls we better get going!' Jai called up the stairs. We drove two cars to the hospital so that the girls could come home later whilst some of us could stay overnight.

I drove Kyra's sisters to the hospital, the atmosphere sad. As we pulled up, I dropped them to where jai and Jess were waiting and took my car into the car park.

'Guys you go in first. Have some time with Kyra and I'll be in a few minutes.'

'Ok el see you in a sec' Mali said hugging me as she left

'Love you guys.' I said as they left

'Love you' they all said as they walked through the entrance.

I parked the car and headed towards the double doors. As I walked into the hospital, I spotted a mini Waitrose and grabbed some snacks before heading towards the hotel room.

Taking a deep breath, I stepped inside.
