MARCH, 2024
He looked up at me with a smile, that made him look almost innocent.
“What do you want?” I asked, my voice wavering slightly, caught off guard by his calm demeanor.
“Would you mind sitting and talking, Jennie Kim?” he said in a soothing tone, gesturing to the chair opposite him. My heart skipped a beat—how the fuck he know my full name? I stared at him, my expression a mix of confusion and shock.
“I know you’re wondering how I know your name, but I’ll explain everything. Just sit, please,” he said, as if reading my mind. Hesitantly, I nodded and slid into the chair, facing him. He removed his black cap, ruffling his hair, revealing his full appearance.
He looked surprisingly young, with an oval face and soft, chubby cheeks that contrasted with his defined jawline and plump lips. His eyes, though big, seemed to narrow into a smile when he spoke, making me wonder how he could see anything at all. He had a unique visual appeal—handsome, though not more than my Song Kang ofc.
He extended his hand for a shake. I hesitated, but finally reached out. His touch didn’t feel threatening; in fact, it was surprisingly gentle.
“I’m Mr. Park Jimin,” he introduced himself, handing me a black visiting card. Its rare too see black card I glanced at it, noticing the minimalist design. It was entirely black, with only his name, “Mr. Park Ji-Min,” printed in white bold font , and beneath it, the title “Head Consigliere” in golden italics. No company name, address, or contact information. I looked up at him, intrigued and wary.
“So, you’re financially needy?” His sudden comment made me blush with embarrassment.
“Yeah, so?” I replied, trying to sound unfazed.
“Our company is looking for a special employee for my boss,” he said, his tone steady.
“Okay, and?” I asked, my curiosity piqued.
“We can solve all your money problems in exchange for one thing,” he leaned back in his chair, watching my reaction carefully.
“And what’s that?” I tilted my head, suspicion creeping into my voice.
“I can’t say that now. You would hear it directly from our boss if you’re interested,” he replied smoothly. I tried to hide my growing interest.
“But what’s the job?” I pressed.
“I can’t provide any information about the work,” he stated simply. I nodded, considering the risk. Should I agree? It could be an opportunity, but what if it’s just a trap?
“Don’t worry, it’s not a trap. If you’re interested, just say so,” he said, almost as if he knew exactly what I was thinking. How he knows tho.
“But how can I be sure it’s not a trap?” I crossed my arms, leaning forward, challenging him.
“Well, it’s normal to be cautious. But you can trust us if you want your life to change,” he said, his gaze never leaving mine. He seemed sincere, but I still had my doubts. Then something else crossed my mind.
“You followed me yesterday, didn’t you?” I asked, my tone serious.
“Yes, I did. I’m sorry I scared you. That wasn’t my intention. As I mentioned, we’re looking for the perfect candidate, so I had to check everything about you. I sincerely apologize,” he said without hesitation, his tone steady and honest.
“It’s okay,” I nodded slowly, starting to believe him.
“So, what have you decided about the offer?” he asked.
“I need a little time, and…” Before I could finish, he stood up, putting his cap back on.
“One week. That’s all I can give you. I hope you’ll call me soon,” he said, handing me another card, this one with his number on it. Without another word, he left, disappearing into the night.
I sat there, watching him leave, the weight of his offer heavy on my mind.I ended my class, but the thought of the offer isn't leaving my mind. I'm so curious about it. Should I at least try? Maybe it's a great opportunity, but what's that "one thing"? It could be a trap too. I can't be a fool. Jennie Kim can't be fooled. After staring at the card for another 10 minutes, I flinched when I suddenly heard someone calling my name. I looked up and was shocked to see it was none other than Song Kang. He waved at me, and I waved back. Why is he calling me? And yes, he knows me. I blushed and smiled as he walked over. I quickly hid the card and looked at him. He sat on the chair beside me.
"How are you, Jennie?" he asked with his cute smile.
"Good. What about you?"
"Good too. Do you have any plans after this?" he leaned on his palm, looking directly at me, making my cheeks turn red.
"Actually... yeah... the café… you know? Haha," I chuckled awkwardly.
"Oh yeah, I know. So, can I ride you there? On my bike?" he grinned. Should I say yes or no?
"Okay." I said yes. I actually said YES!
"That's great. Come with me." I nodded, and he walked out with me beside him. He's so tall compared to me. Everyone was staring at us like we were a strange couple. My delulu mind.
He slid one leg over his bike, put on his helmet, and looked at me.
"Sit, Jennie." I sat behind him. It's a bike, so I had to hold onto his waist. I'll burn up now. He gently took my hands and wrapped them around his waist. Oh my gosh, my cheeks are burning.
He drove us to the café and helped me off. I was too shy to talk.
"So, Jennie, see you. Bye." I just waved, and he left.
Oh gosh, I forgot—someone is definitely going to tease me about this!"Ooh, Jen got a guy," and just as I thought.
"It's not like that," I tried to brush off the topic because I hate the idea of being teased.
"Yeah, yeah, I saw how you wrapped your arm around him," she smirked. I hid my blushing face.
"Someone's blushing," she laughed. Oh god, someone, please sew her mouth shut. I looked inside my bag for my phone when I saw the card again. Being with him almost made me forget about it. Now it's going to eat me up again. I sighed heavily as I put my hair into a bun and tied the apron around me.
Just a few minutes later, I got a text. Who could it be? It was from my apartment owner. Why did she text me? My fingers trembled as I opened her message.Miss Jennie Kim,
I'm Ms. Kang Seo Unhan, the owner of your apartment. As per our agreement, if you're unable to pay three months' rent, you have to move out and pay a penalty equivalent to one month's rent. It's already been four months since you last paid, so you need to vacate the apartment within a week, along with two months' penalty rent.
Your building owner,Ms. Yo.
As soon as I read the message, my whole body started shaking. Damn it, this was the last thing I needed. How will I find a new apartment with everything I need? I've had university exam fees to pay for the past few months, which is why I couldn't cover the rent. I barely managed one month's payment. How am I supposed to handle all of this with my limited income? Oh god, everything is so messed up. I'm so frustrated.
"Rosie," I turned to Rose with a weary tone.
"Everything okay, Jen?" she asked, sounding concerned.
"Yes, actually, can you take over my shift today? I need to go home urgently," I pressed her arm.
"Sure, but is it an emergency? Are you okay?" I nodded and quickly left the café, running back to my apartment, breathing heavily.I talked to Ms. Yo and tried my best to convince her, but she didn't listen. I have only one week now. What should I do? I can't be homeless.
It's been six days, and I've tried to find a new apartment, but I failed, and it's affected my job. My boss is threatening me. Wow, everyone is threatening me. Now I have only one option left: the black card. I have nothing else. My back is against the wall. I pulled out the card and dialed the number on my cracked phone. I'm feeling so nervous suddenly. I held my chest; it feels heavy. Someone picked up.
"Yes, hello, Miss Jennie Kim?" a familiar voice said—it was Park Jimin. But how did he know I would call? I shook off my thoughts and finally spoke.
"I'm interested," I said at last.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes."
"Okay, I'm sending a black Mercedes. Just get in, and you'll be taken to our boss's house." He hung up. Wait, aren't I supposed to be going to his company? What does he mean by house?
