Emma woke the next morning feeling the warmth of Nathan's body pressed against hers. The faint light of dawn filtered through the blinds, casting soft shadows across the room. For a moment, she lay there, taking in the peacefulness of the moment, savoring the sense of security that came from being in Nathan's arms.

She hadn't expected to find herself here so soon—in this place, emotionally and physically. The intensity of last night still lingered in the air, but now, in the soft morning light, everything felt real, solid. There was no room for doubt or hesitation anymore. Nathan was her anchor, and she was his, and whatever challenges they faced in the hospital or outside of it, they would face together.

Nathan stirred beside her, his arms tightening around her as he woke. Emma glanced up at him, smiling softly as his eyes fluttered open. He blinked a few times before his gaze settled on her, and a lazy, contented smile spread across his face.

"Morning," he said, his voice husky from sleep.

"Morning," she replied, her fingers tracing the line of his jaw. "Did you sleep well?"

"Better than I have in a long time," he admitted, his hand moving to caress her back. "Waking up next to you... I could get used to this."

Emma's heart fluttered at his words, and she couldn't help the smile that spread across her face. "Me too," she said softly, leaning in to kiss him.

Their lips met in a gentle, lingering kiss, the kind that spoke of comfort and familiarity, of the intimacy they had found in each other. It was a different kind of passion now—one that came not just from desire, but from a deeper connection, a bond that had formed over weeks of shared moments, stolen glances, and quiet confessions.

When they finally pulled away, Nathan sighed, a look of reluctance crossing his face. "As much as I'd love to stay in bed with you all day, I have a meeting with Dr. Patel in an hour. I should probably get ready."

Emma groaned, playfully rolling her eyes. "Right. Real life. I guess we can't hide out here forever."

He chuckled, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. "We'll have plenty of time for us, I promise. But for now..." He kissed her forehead before sitting up and swinging his legs over the side of the bed. "Duty calls."

Emma watched him as he got up, admiring the way his muscles moved beneath his skin, the ease with which he carried himself. There was something comforting about seeing him like this, in his element, preparing for the day with the same calm confidence he brought to every aspect of his life.

She stretched lazily before slipping out of bed herself, pulling on the shirt he had worn the night before. It hung loose on her frame, the fabric soft and smelling of him. She padded into the kitchen, deciding to make coffee while Nathan showered.

As she stood at the counter, waiting for the coffee to brew, Emma found herself thinking about the future. Everything felt so uncertain—how they would continue to balance their relationship with their careers, how their colleagues might react if they found out—but for the first time in a long time, she felt hopeful. They had taken a leap, and now it was just a matter of trusting that they could land on their feet.

Nathan emerged from the bedroom a few minutes later, dressed in his usual work attire, his hair still damp from the shower. He smiled as he saw her standing by the counter, wearing nothing but his shirt.

"You're dangerous, you know that?" he teased, walking over to her and wrapping his arms around her waist.

Emma grinned, pressing a kiss to his cheek. "Just keeping you on your toes, Dr. Blake."

He laughed, his hands sliding down to rest on her hips. "You're succeeding."

They shared a quiet moment, the smell of freshly brewed coffee filling the kitchen. Nathan's hold on her was firm yet gentle, as if he couldn't quite let go.
