Chapter Nine

" Kazuha! One of your friends is here by the door! " A woman called Kazuha as he was playing with the family cat and dog. " Coming! " He made his way to the front door and opened it. A boy with ears and tail and casual clothing was waiting in front of the door. " Gorou! It's nice to see you again. " He let him inside as he closed the door behind him. " It's been a long time. I thought I'd come for a visit. "

" It has, hasn't it? " They sat down on the living room couch. " So how are you Kazuha? " I'm doing well. How about you? "

" Very well! I got my own house after years of hard work! " He gasped. " That's amazing Gorou! "

" I'll go to work now, Kazuha. I'll be back late ok? " He nodded and waved his mom goodbye. " Cya, Mrs. Beidou! " She exited the house leaving the boys alone in the house. " Wanna go to my room? "

" Sure! "

They went up to Kazuha's room. They sat down on the bed as Gorou picked up a controller from the ground. " You still play games? " He looked at the TV in front of the bed. " Occasionally, why? "

" Shall we play a few rounds of Mario Kart? "

They played a few rounds of Mario Kart and bonded together. Kazuha beating Gorou most of the time. " Come on, come on! " Gorou sat at the edge of the bed, determined to beat Kazuha. And yet, his efforts weren't rewarded. " Ugh! How do you keep winning! "

" You've won some rounds Gorou. You should be proud! " He smiled at him. " I'll just get some water. " He stood up from the bed and walked to the kitchen. He looked at his phone to see the time. 1PM. Then he remembered something. " Oh yeah, I have to meet up with Scara! " He exited the game and turned off the TV. He went downstairs where Gorou was.

" I'm sorry I didn't tell you earlier but I have to go uh, see a friend today. " Gorou was drinking water as he put the cup down. " It's fine. I had a lot of fun with you today at least! "

" I guess I'll go now, have a good day Kazuha. " Gorou was about to exit through the door but.

" Wait! " He turned around. " What is it? "

" You own a car right? " He looked at him, confused. " Yeah? "

" Mind doing me a favor? I promise I'll repay you! "

" Sure, what is it? "

" Could you drive me to the North Wind Park and drop me there? "

" Is that where you are going? " He nodded. " Alright I'll wait for you and drive you there. " He thanked Gorou and started getting ready.

He waited patiently for Kazuha as he stood in front of a car. He heard the door open as his ears flinched upwards. Kazuha exited the house, locking it before he closed the door. He went up to Gorou. " Okay we can leave now! " He opened the door for the passenger's seat and let Kazuha in. " You first. " He got in and sat down as Gorou opened the door to the driver's seat and closed it. He started up the car engine and drove his way to the destination of Kazuha as requested.

He got down from the car and waved Gorou goodbye as he drove off. He roamed around the park looking for Scaramouche but had no luck. He checked the time again on his phone. 2PM. " I guess I was a bit early. Maybe he needs more time. I'm sure he will come on time. " He decided he wanted to go to the fountain in the middle of the park to wait for him. He sat down on a bench in the area and he decided to text Scaramouche. He was about to finish the message when suddenly. " Kazuha? You're here! " He looked up and saw Marina. He closed his phone and stood up so he could properly talk to her. " Oh, Marina, I thought you had to do something? " " Yeah, I was supposed to do a job interview but they canceled it and moved it to tomorrow due to scheduling issues. "

" That's unfortunate, I hope you get the job though. "

" Thank you! I hope so too. "

" So what are you doing here Marina? " He questioned her. " I'm just on a walk, relaxing my mind. You? "

" I'm just waiting for someone. "

" I see. Well, Kazuha. Remember when I was supposed to tell you something but couldn't back in the manga store? " He tilted his head. " Yeah? "

" Well, it's time that I told you what I was trying to say that day.. " She flicked some of her hair to the back of her ear as she looked away from him. Her face was red. Kazuha was left confused. " Kazuha.. I like you. " He was about to say something but his words were left unsaid as he was pulled by Marina as she connected her lips with his as they kissed. Kazuha was shocked and confused, really confused. He didn't know what was going on. His attention was brought back as he heard something fall to the ground followed by footsteps. He quickly looked to where he heard the sound and saw a glimpse of the back of Scaramouche running away and a bouquet of flowers left on the ground. He lightly pushed Marina so she wouldn't get hurt and started chasing after him but Marina grabbed his wrist unexpectedly.

" Kazuha wait! You haven't answered me yet! " He turned around to her. " I don't want to hurt you Marina but I'll make this quick. I don't like you, romantically. "

" I.. I see. I'm sorry. " She let go. " It's fine. We'll talk about it later! " He ran to the bouquet of flowers and picked it up as he ran as fast as he could to catch up with Scaramouche. He lost sight of him but still searched for him but he failed. He looked at the bouquet that Scaramouche supposedly dropped. " Scara, these flowers are lovely. It's a shame, you could've given it to me properly. " Giving up, he went back to the fountain as he held the bouquet of flowers in his arms. He saw Marina sitting on the bench. He sat down beside her. " Are you alright? " She sighed. " I'm okay.. I'm sorry for suddenly kissing you. "

" It's fine. You are taking my rejection very well actually. "

" Yeah, I've sort of prepared for it for quite some time but it still hurts. "

" We still can be friends, you know? I just don't feel any feelings for you sadly. I already like someone else. " Her curiosity rose. " Really? Well, I think our friendship is pretty good. Haha. " She giggled softly. " Do you want to hug it out? " She nodded. He opened his arms and embraced her. " Let's just be friends, ok? "

" Sure. It's better than nothing. "

They eventually talked it out but soon they had to go home. Kazuha sat in his bedroom texting Scaramouche as he was still worried for him. He could have messaged him earlier but he wanted to settle things with Marina first. He sent a message to him.

Scara_mouche

Scara?

Are you ok?

Did you see me kiss that girl?

" He's not responding.. " He sighed, as he heard the door open. Both of his parents are back home. He went up to the door to greet them. " Ugh. I'm beat, Ningguang! " Beidou closed the door behind them. " At least we're home. " Kazuha went up to them. " You're home! " He hugged Ningguang. " Kazuha, how are you? I'm finally back from the airport. " She hugged back. " I've been doing well " She let go of the hug and patted Kazuha's head. " Alright, I'll cook dinner for us if that's alright. " " Sure! You are a much better cook than me. "

Ningguang then made dinner for her family. Beidou and Ningguang chatted away as they hadn't seen each other for quite some time. But soon Beidou noticed that Kazuha was really quiet. " Did something happen Kazuha? " She suddenly asked. " Oh, I'm fine, don't worry. I just had a long day.. "

" I see.. "

" Thanks for dinner. I enjoy it. " Kazuha got up from his seat and made his way to the kitchen sink to put his dishes in. He came back outside the kitchen. " Goodnight mom and mama! I love you. "

" We love you too! " He made his way to his room. He laid on his bed looking at Scaramouche's DM. No reply whatsoever. " I hope he is ok. I hope he didn't think that Marina kissing me meant that I actually liked her.. "

" But.. now that I think about it. If I was in his position, I would think the same thing.. "

" Please.. respond, Scara.. "
