"I'm calling out to the darkness; I'm calling out for a sign."

                    Purple Rain by Prince

IT HAD BEEN a week since Sevyn moved into the little beach cottage. The place was small and outdated even for this decade, but it held a charm that resonated with her. It was hers and it almost felt like home.

This week, however, hadn't been without its challenges. It seemed that finally achieving this milestone in her adventure triggered a delayed human reaction.

Sevyn's new landlord, seemingly eager to be rid of it, handed over the keys to the house. The place had been vacant for a while and needed some deep cleaning, a task Sevyn didn't mind; it would keep her busy. It wasn't large – just two bedrooms and a bathroom on the second floor, the kitchen, eating nook and living room taking up the first floor.

The walls were painted in a calming shade of pale blue and blonde wood floors ran throughout. A sliding glass door off the living room led out to a small, fenced-in garden area bordering the shore. All in all, it was a charming little place that perfectly fit the beach theme.

The cottage was mostly unfurnished, with just a couple of beds and some living room furniture, no curtains unfortunately. Sevyn figured she had time to figure out the rest of what she needed, but that wasn't a pressing concern. Right now, the basics were all that mattered, and as far as she was concerned, they were covered.

She had been thrilled to finally be out of the suffocating motel room and into her own place. It had been a couple of years since she'd started living on her own, and the motel had made her feel trapped, like nothing was real. But now, in a place that should have felt like freedom, the walls seemed to be closing in on her. Luckily, she was able to hold herself together until the owner left.

The moment she was alone, a broken sob tore from her throat, a raw sound laced with anguish. Maybe this reaction was a long time coming, but something about this place felt more permanent. She was stuck in this reality, and she had no idea how to get back, if she even wanted to.

There was nothing left for her back home, but it was still home. Could she even live without modern amenities? The truth was, she didn't have much of a choice. Nothing made sense anymore. The rules she once knew no longer applied.

Not only was she stranded in a different decade, one she wasn't even born into, but she was also in another dimension that defied everything she thought was real. How was she supposed to cope with that?

Her breath hitched in short bursts, a vice tightening around her chest. A wave of overwhelming hopelessness crashed over her. For the first time in a long time, she felt utterly lost. What was she supposed to do? Why had it taken so long for this emotional breakdown to hit? Was she really that broken?

So many questions swirled through her mind, a tangled mess she couldn't unravel. All she wanted to do was cry, but the tears wouldn't come. It was as if her body had shut down. What was wrong with her? Yet another question with no answer.

For hours, she lay on the old couch in her tiny living room, unable to move from her fetal position. Everything felt utterly hopeless, but she knew she had to move. Slowly, she forced herself up and trudged to her room, collapsing onto the bare mattress. The lack of sheets didn't register, she had a pillow and her blanket and that's all she needed. All she cared about was the overwhelming fact that her entire life had changed in the literal blink of an eye.

One blink. Less than a second, and everything she knew was gone.

It all felt pointless. There was no way she'd survive encounters with the Lost Boys unless she convinced them she wasn't a threat. But with all the information she'd been withholding, trust wouldn't come easily. Honestly, Sevyn wasn't sure of anything anymore. She was in no state to figure it all out.

Instead, she indulged in self-pity for a while, clinging to a sliver of hope that maybe things would work out somehow. Her entire life had been flipped upside down, and she was utterly lost.

It was a Friday night. After forcing herself out of bed, she spent the whole day cleaning the cottage and unpacking what she could from her old life. The internet was a bust, but she set up her computer for offline tasks. Her 75-inch TV found a home in the living room, connected to a laptop loaded with movies and TV shows.

The day was spent trying not to think too much about her current life. She bustled around unpacking and cleaning, but it was impossible to shake the bitterness. She'd probably never see her old life again. Recreating her "big blink" was too risky. She might end up worse off. She figured it was smart to make a life here – at least a little – and get comfortable. As comfortable as the 80s will let her, anyway.

These small touches, a glimpse of normalcy, lifted her spirits. It wasn't much, but it was a piece of home.

After a refreshing shower, Sevyn ventured out for groceries and essentials she'd missed on her first shopping trip before she moved in. Days without food had left her starving. It wasn't a major haul, just enough easy meals to last a week.

While she could manage cleaning the place, cooking anything complex seemed daunting. She was still recovering from her stint in bed, and she used all her energy today already.

Mac and cheese, her childhood comfort food, became her dinner for the night. It was cheesy, cheap, and filling – exactly what she craved. Eating better tomorrow was a hopeful thought, but not a guarantee.

In the meantime, she needed to refresh her memory. It had been a few months since she'd watched the movie, and despite knowing every line, a rewatch felt necessary. Maybe it would spark an idea on how to save the boys, or even how to reveal who she really was.

Using her wireless mouse on the coffee table, Sevyn navigated her movie collection, settling in with her food to revisit her favorite vampire movie.

It wasn't until the wine scene that all hell broke loose.

AN: No boys in this chapter. Womp. But we get to finally see Sevyn get hit with what a clusterfuck the situation she is in is. Took her a minute. Next chapter is interesting imo, looking forward to that!

My notes for this story are just filled with snippets of scenes and conversations that I have no idea where to put them. The Dwayne conversation from the other chapter being one of them.

As always, you guys are awesome. Thank you all so much for the support!
