The sands of Mearog blew against Hesperia's bare skin. Her dark brown hair started to come out of her headcovering, due to the winds picking up. The sun of Mearog was a red giant, making the surroundings look red when the sunset and or rose. Yet the sandstorm up ahead looked just as nasty as they always do.
"Kipper, let's speed this up now. Gotta get this junk back into town." She called out to her Fengli friend. Kipper cooed before pulling harder on the metal handle like a sled to the top of a large dune. "Here should be good Kipper!" Hesperia called out to her friend before putting a long staff-like thing in a hole in the metal slide. With a couple of adjustments and a click of a button, a large sail popped out of the metal staff. Kipper purred and jumped onto the sled near the front, holding on with her bird feet in the front she adjusted to her comfort. "Here we go!" Hesperia ran and jumped onto the metal sled with cargo on it, making it race down the dune. With a couple more turns of the staff and clicks the sail was fully out now and an engine in the back of the small metal sled started up. Causing them to catch air and ride it like they were windsurfing. Hoots and hollers came from Hesperia and Kipper, they might have been trying to outrun a sandstorm, but were having much more fun than they should have been.
Hesperia kicked a lever with her foot and a small wing-like thing came out from the right side and stood from the bottom. It helped catch more air and assisted with turns, Hesperia patted herself on the back from thinking of adding those on. Kipper started to spread her wings and wagged her small feline tail, even if she was a Fegli she was the more house cat size. A smile appeared from under the shaggy scarf that Hesperia had on. It made her happy Kipper was enjoying this.
A couple of miles later the two made their way into the outskirts of Tadmur, the biggest city on Mearog. Tadmur was known for its red-light districts and gladiator fights, but all of that was underground events. Quite literally, due to the heat of the desert planet most towns and cities were mostly underground.
"Stay close Kipper," Hesperia whispered as the two pulled the metal sled into the crowded flea market, where the scum would go to make some money. "Today looks to be busy, do you think it's because of the upcoming festival?" Kipper sat on the sled and chirped in response. "Yes, it could be the gladiator fights as well." She chuckled.
"My my, what a pretty thing you are." An older man went to pet Kipper, but growls and hiss came from the Fegli.
"Don't do that, unless you want to lose a hand," Hesperia warned. The old man retracted his hand and mumbled something under his breath before walking away.
"Kip, keep a close eye from behind. We don't want to lose the loot we found." The warning she made even made her feel uneasy. Even if Tadmur wasn't the worst city, it sure wasn't the safest for a human scavenger like herself. Sometimes Hesperia wished she would've been an ugly alien instead of a human, or at least belong to a tribe of scary nomads.
The streets were crowded which made trading and selling easier for the two and boy did they thank the mages because of how much they got back. Yet it was getting late and Hesperia knew they needed to find a rooftop since hoe was a two-day journey for those two. It took a couple of tries and lots of wrong turns, but the two found a nice rooftop where they could build a small fire to cook stew on. Sure the metal sled/windboard wasn't an ideal bed, but it would have to do. Hesperia gazed at the stars with wonder and peace. She knew that it was going to be a long journey back, but the view of the night sky would be better. A chirp came from Kipper as she rested her head on Hesperia's side.
"Don't worry, I'm fine." Even her voice said otherwise. Kipper made another sort of noise that sounded like sass. "No I am not depressed nor am I going through and menstrual cycle to make me hormonal." Hesperia squinted her eyes at the creature and sat up. "It's hard...I want to be a part of something more than just this Kipper, I want to be out there. Even a pilot let alone. I need to do something more than pick up garbage and sell it." Kipper looked up and then looked back at the young girl, a squawk came from the creature's mouth. "Okay," Hesperia held up her finger. "That was rude and no I will not leave you behind. Imagine it, you can be my copilot and help me through our adventures." A small chuckle slipped from her, and she lay back down to look up at the sky, small streaks went across the sky before more ships came into the atmosphere.
