Hayley sits in the car, parked in the wide open space, her eyes shifting between the glowing sunset and Rio lounging next to her, completely unfazed. "So, what do I say?" she asks, her voice tight with frustration. Rio turns his head lazily, a slow, amused smile curling his lips as his eyes lock onto hers. "To whom?" he asks, raising an eyebrow.
Hayley stares at him in disbelief, gesturing at the air as if it's obvious. "The FBI. What do I tell them?" Rio chuckles, the sound low and smooth as he leans back casually, his hand draping over the seat. "They ain't got nothing," he says with a dismissive wave. "They've got a picture of you," Hayley counters, disbelief coloring her tone. "That ain't special," Rio replies, his grin widening as he reaches into the book bag at his feet. "I'm on Facebook, too." He pulls out a wad of cash, tossing it onto her lap like it's nothing. "Your cut," he says, already reaching for the door handle.
"Wait, wait, wait," Hayley blurts, her panic rising as she grabs his arm. Rio pauses, looking back at her, his eyebrow quirking up in curiosity, but his smirk stays firmly in place. He leans back into his seat, giving her a look that's both amused and flirtatious. "In my line of work, if you ain't got the FBI on your back, you ain't making noise," he says, his voice dripping with confidence. Hayley exhales sharply, rubbing her forehead. "I don't want to make noise. Look, I'm way too pregnant for noise. They're gonna want to know what someone like me is doing with someone like you," she says, gesturing to her swollen belly. Rio's gaze drops to her stomach before slowly traveling back up to meet her eyes. His smirk grows wider, and there's a mischievous gleam in his eyes. "What are you doing with someone like me, huh?" he asks, his voice low and teasing.
"Well obviously I can't say that" Hayley says making rio smirk. "Right right. Alright so tel them I was hittin it" Rio says making Hayley snap her head at him. "Excuse me?" She says speechless. "Oh I'm sorry sweetheart tell them we were making love" Rio teases.
Hayley stammers, still trying to process Rio's suggestion. "I–uh how do I even say that?" she mutters, flustered, her mind racing with the absurdity of it. Rio chuckles , clearly enjoying her reaction. "You'll think of something. Make me sound good though, yeah?" Rio says before opening the car door and leaving.
...
Later that day, Hayley sits in the doctor's office with her sisters, waiting to support Ruby and her daughter. The tension is thick, but Ruby can't stay quiet for long. "All the stuff you think you're keeping from them? You're not," Ruby says, breaking the silence.
Hayley and Elizabeth exchange a glance, feeling where this is headed. "Don't go there," Elizabeth warns gently. Ruby sighs, shaking her head. "I mean, I'm not gonna say I'm a bad mother..." she starts. "Oh, she's going there," Annie chimes in, crossing her arms, as they all listen.
"I could've paid more attention..." Ruby continues, her voice catching as tears well up. Hayley quickly reaches over, squeezing her hand. "You do the best you can, honey. That's all anyone can do," Hayley reassures her. Ruby stares down at her lap, the tears spilling over. Elizabeth, sensing the need for a distraction, pulls out a small box from her bag and hands it to Ruby.
"Those better be doughnuts. Don't come at me with some wack-ass cheese Danish," Ruby mutters through her tears, making the others chuckle. "Open it," Hayley says softly, rubbing Ruby's hand. When Ruby peeks inside, her brow furrows. "These aren't doughnuts..." Ruby says. "It's everything. Our whole cut." Elizabeth says before smiling. Ruby's eyes widen in shock. "But you have a baby on the way—you need the money!" she says turning to Hayley to protest. "Don't worry about me, I'm fine," Hayley says dismissing with a wave of her hand.
"We knew you'd need it for the hospital bills," Annie adds. Elizabeth nods in agreement. "We don't want you to even think about it, okay?" Before Ruby can argue, all three sisters pull her into a tight hug, wrapping her in their support. Ruby sniffles, still overwhelmed. "And messed up my damn face," she grumbles, wiping her tears. "If it makes you feel better, it was already pretty messed up," Hayley teases, earning a quick pinch from Ruby.
