Everybody burst into a big laugh, then, suddenly, Leonard started coughing, so much so that he had to bend over.
«Are you ok honey?» asked Penny, while gently placing a hand on her husband's back.
«I.. need... water...» Leonard had to force his words out between all the coughing and the gasping breath.
«I'll go get it» interjected Raj, and he immediately rushed to the nearest vending machine.
Howard watched the scene completely frozen. He wasn't expecting it, and how could he? The last time he saw Leonard he had barely shown any sign of cancer symptoms, but now... now, to Howard, he seemed to be already on his deathbed.
Howard glanced at Sheldon, fearing to see any sign of sorrow or apprehension, but nothing seemed to trouble his friend's face or body.
«Sheldon...» whispered Howard, while getting closer to his friend.
«What?» replied him.
«Are you ok?»
«Yes I am! Thank you for asking. Maybe a little bit tired from all the traveling but I bet that...»
«That's not what I meant!» Howard interrupted him abruptly.
«What did you mean then?»
«Well... you know... with Leonard...»
«Howard?»
«Yes?»
«After all this year, you still think that I will react appropriately in a social situation?»
«You're right... Your Vulcan blood must be still keeping you from feeling human emotions... such as empathy...»
