Marie, as in Marie Curie

Sheldon was back in her wife's room. She was still asleep, but the baby's eyes were open: she was staring at the silver bell. Sheldon took off his two-layered shirt and carefully folded it. He then gently lifted her baby from the crib, and placed her upon his bare chest. He had seen people doing it in several films: the best source of his social-skill-knowledge.

She was so tiny in his arms. Sheldon started rocking her, softly singing the lullaby he had waited for so long to sing to her: «I was living like half a man / Then i couldn't love but now i can / You pick me up when i'm feeling sad / More soul than i ever had»

«Sheldon?» Amy's eyes slowly opened, her face tired and confused.

«We're here» Replied him, still holding his daughter.

«Oh, look at that: it took me a lifetime to make you take your shirt off for me, and now she comes along and you get immediately naked» joked Amy, softly smiling.

«I know, right? But what can I say? As I already told Leonard, I think that my love for her is already making me go nuts... I believe I need to start again with those tutorial video for when I completely descend into madness»

«Yeah.. sure»

Silence fell in the room, but it felt warm, it felt full.

«I love you, both» whispered Amy

«We love you too, don't we Marie?»

As a response, Marie started crying. «Or.. maybe not?» said Sheldon sarcastically - he did, in fact, get a grip on sarcasm: the previous failure must have been stress-induced, he was sure.

«Give her to me, I think it is meal time. And... Could you please call the nurse? I know the theory about breastfeeding, but I am not so sure about my practical skill...»

The nurse came a few minutes after. Marie was still screaming from the top of her lungs - she had clearly gotten his father's relentless capacity for annoying everybody.

«What a beautiful little girl! What's her name?» Asked the nurse, while helping Amy adjust the baby on her breast.

«Marie» replied Sheldon

«A French name!»

«In this case Polish, as in Marie Curie, the Nobel prize winner who died because of her own study on radiation. Maybe one day our daughter will be as brave and intelligent as her»

The nurse went silent.

«It's also the French version of my mother's name, actually» added Sheldon, trying to patch things up.

«Oh, how nice... Your mother must be very happy»

«Oh my! I forgot to call her!» Sheldon rushed out of the room.

«So... is he always like that?» asked the nurse hesitatingly.

«Yes... But don't worry, he's not crazy: his mother got him tested»

It was a bright Sunday morning in Pasadena. Little Elliott was playing with the wooden cubes on the floor, giggling. Penny was watching him from the kitchen counter, lost in her thoughts.

«Good morning Elliot» Leonard greeted him, while entering the room. He was still in his nightgown, his hands buried in his pockets.

«DADA!» cheered Elliott, spreading his arms to reach him.

Leonard took him in his arms and kissed him. «I love you, my boy»

Penny was still silently watching. Then remembered: «We have to call everybody!»

«My God, you're right. Marie is born! Did you hear me Elliott? Your cousin finally arrived!»

Elliott smiled and giggled at his father's facial expression.

«I'd say we take the first flight to Geneva. I don't care how much it'll cost. I don't trust Amy taking care of both Sheldon and her baby alone»

«Yeah, you're right»

«Let's divide and conquer: I get the tickets, you call everybody»

After a couple of days Sheldon and Amy were finally back home. It was a pretty small apartment very close to the CERN laboratory. Shortly after the Nobel they were offered a two-year research job there, and they were definitely not planning about having a baby, but, you know... after the Nobel Ceremony Sheldon seemed incapable of taking his hands off his nobel-prize winner wife. Who could blame him, am I right?

A call arrived, as soon as they crossed the threshold.

«Hello?»

«Hi, Sheldon, it's Leonard. Are you home yet?»

«We've just arrived»

«Perfect. Our flight will land tomorrow at 8 in the morning. It's just me, Penny and our boy. Howard and Bernadette's kids have the flu and Raj can't leave work»

«Ok. For how long are you planning on staying?»

«I'd say a couple of weeks. We could come back to Pasadena all together, what do you think?»

«Sounds wonderful»

Marie burst into a loud cry that seemed to rip their ears off. «Sheldon! HELP!»

shouted Amy in the background.

«Seems like you're busy. I'll leave you be»

But Sheldon was no longer listening: his shirt was covered in yellow vomit.
