The forest was silent except for the sound that was heard from Jimmy and Scott walking through the ankle deep snow.
The two would arrive at Rivendell in a few hours and Scott was starting to get doubts again, no matter how much Jimmy reassured him. For some reason, the elf couldn't stop the thoughts running through his head.
But Scott kept his head high. He couldn't run, it wouldn't fix anything. And then there was of course the surprise the cod hybrid kept talking about.
Each time the elf asked what it was, the other would get shifty and repeat that it would be best for Scott to see for himself.
"Do you hear that?" Jimmy suddenly asked and Scott turned his head towards the blonde with a confused look.
Hear what? The forest was silent except for the sound of them walking through the snow that lay on the ground. Yeah sure, there maybe was some wind but this was a forest with only fir, there were no deciduous trees here for the wind to blow through the leaves.
Jimmy noticed his boyfriend's confusion and grabbed his hand, pulling him off their path back to the castle and walking towards one of the high fir trees. Pointing to the icicles growing on the branches.
It was when Scott started to listen very closely that he heard what Jimmy meant, the small icicles made a little tinkle sound when they moved in the wind.
It sounded rather lovely.
"It sounds a little like music doesn't it?" Jimmy commented as he started to play with some of the icicles. Tapping on them with his nails and making them tap softly against each other.
"It does," Scott replied with a smile as he watched his boyfriend play with the icicles. "Ah!" The elf let out a surprised yelp when Jimmy pulled at his arm suddenly and took him a little away from the tree.
"What are you doing you doing you fish?" He demanded in an incredulous tone. Not understanding why the other suddenly yanked him away and put his free hand on his shoulder.
Jimmy bursted out laughing. "Fish? Really, you couldn't come up with anything better?"
Scott began to sputter and slapped the blond's arm a few times while his face turned red. "I panicked! You just yanked at my arm!"
Jimmy kept laughing while Scott gave him a mean look and tried to stop his face from turning red any further.
The wind started to slowly pick up and Scott could hear the sound of the icicles tapping against each other getting louder as the branches began to move with the wind. For some odd reason, it started to sound a little like music.
Scott began to slowly realise what Jimmy's, in his opinion absolutely absurd, plan was. He wanted to dance.
"You do realise we are outside, in the snow. In the most random spot, one could be?" Scott stated as he gave the blond an unsure look.
Jimmy smiled as he again placed his free hand on his boyfriend's shoulder. "I do. But to dance, we only really need the two of us."
He placed started to slowly move around. Not following any steps of the dances they learned. But rather following the the music he imagined the icicles made, watching if Scott would follow.
"And you told me a few times you like dancing, not following any geography, just the music."
Scott let out a small chuckle at Jimmy's reasoning and let the other lead him through the steps. A little break from their walking wouldn't hurt and the elf suspected that the dancing wouldn't take long.
Yes, sure. They could go on for hours but that would cost too much energy and they still needed to walk back to Rivendell, which would at least take another three to four hours.
