New York City. The Big Apple. The city that Never Sleeps. But to y/n l/n, it was the start of a new chapter of her life.

She had just moved from Miami, Florida with her parents and two older brothers. There were a lot of reasons as to why they decided to move up north, but the main one was for her dad's job. He played a big part in a huge real estate company, and since the company shifted locations, so did he. Her mother was a model, so naturally New York was an ideal place to move. Her brothers, Dave and Sam, always dreamed of living in a huge city like New York. As for y/n... she had her own reasons. But we'll get to that later.

She was standing outside of her new high school with her brothers. Dave was in 12th grade, while Sam was in 11th. And today, she was starting 9th grade. She was slightly nervous about going to her new school, but she decided it couldn't be that bad. At least, not as bad as her old school.

"How long are you gonna keep staring at the door before you walk in?" Sam chuckled.

"Very funny." She rolled her eyes.

"Bye, y/n. We'll meet up after school, all right?" Dave said.

"Yeah, okay," she replied.

"And take care of yourself," he added.

"If anyone bothers you, you know who to call," Sam said, grinning.

"Yeah, yeah. Bye now." With that, y/n took the first step into the school.

Ever since she was a kid, her brothers had been very protective of her. She hardly got bullied because they always looked out for her, made sure she wasn't ever in trouble. Their protectiveness only increased after the events of the past year. She couldn't blame them; what happened was terrible. But she refused to think about that and instead about finding her home room class.

She stepped into the classroom just as the tardy bell rang. She was about to find an empty seat for herself, but her home room teacher decided to call her up to the front of the class.

"Class, may I have your attention?" Mrs. Stone, the teacher, called. "I would like to introduce you all to y/n l/n, our new student."

Everyone seemed intrigued and lifted their heads up to see who their new classmate would be. Everyone except one person wearing a cap backwards and snoozing away on his desk.

"Luke Ross! Wake up this instant!" The teacher yelled shrilly.

"Huh? What?" The boy murmured as he lifted his head and adjusted his cap slightly. "What's going on?"

Mrs. Stone seethed. "If you were paying attention, you would know what I was talking about."

"Hey, it's not my fault everything you say is boring," he retorted.

"As I was saying," she continued, grinding her teeth, "Please welcome your new classmate, who's come all the way from Florida."

"Oh, well, now you said something that isn't boring," Luke said, grinning at y/n.

"Well, in that case why don't you allow her to sit next to you for the rest of the year?"

"Gladly," he replied, clearing the seat of his backpack.

Mrs. Smith rolled her eyes before sitting back at her desk and staring at her computer, happy to be given a moment to ignore the kids.

"Hi, I'm y/n," y/n introduced herself to Luke, the freckled boy who appeared to be very presumptuous.

"Hello there. I'm Luke Ross, and might I just say you are very cute," he said, gently planting a kiss on the back of her hand. "Might I add, also my type."
