A few days later,
Ishita sat cross-legged on the couch at Dhruv and Rinku's place, her laptop balanced on her knees as she focused on the screen. Papers were scattered around her, and her brows were furrowed in concentration. She had a deadline to meet, but Dhruv had insisted she come over, so she’d brought her work along.
Dhruv was lounging on the opposite side of the couch, his eyes never leaving her. He watched the way her fingers moved over the keyboard, the way she occasionally tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, and the slight frown on her face as she focused on her work.
"Yaar, thodi der ke liye laptop bandh kar do na," Dhruv said, his voice soft yet insistent.
Ishita didn't look up. "Dhruv, you know I have to finish this. Deadline hai," she replied, typing furiously.
Dhruv moved closer, his eyes twinkling mischievously. "Ek minute ke liye toh break le sakti ho. Waise bhi, tumhare bina toh mera mann nahi lag raha."
Ishita glanced up, trying to suppress a smile. "Dhruv, please. Mujhe kaam karne do," she said, trying to focus back on her laptop.
But Dhruv was not one to give up so easily. He leaned in, his voice dropping to a low murmur. "Tumhe pata hai, tum jab itni serious hoti ho na, toh aur bhi cute lagti ho."
Ishita could feel her resolve wavering. She glanced at him from the corner of her eye, trying to maintain her focus. "Dhruv, tum na… shut up thodi der," she said, biting back a grin.
Dhruv chuckled, leaning even closer. "Pareshan karna mera haq hai. Aur waise bhi, tumhe dekhne ka mann kar raha tha, kitne dino se dekha nahi hai."
Unable to concentrate anymore, Ishita let out a sigh of exasperation. She turned her head and called out, "Rinku! Yaar, tere dost ko kuch bol. Pareshan kiye jaa raha hai!"
Rinku, who had been in the kitchen, walked into the living room, a knowing smile on his face. He glanced between Dhruv and Ishita, shaking his head. "Arre Bhai, bhabhi ko pareshan mat kar. Bechari kaam kar rahi hai," Rinku said, trying to sound serious but failing miserably as he chuckled.
Ishita's cheeks turned pink at the word bhabhi and Dhruv laughed, leaning back with a satisfied grin. "Rinku," Ishita said, trying to sound annoyed, but a smile tugged at her lips.
Rinku winked at her. "Par kya karen? Dhruv Bhai pe pyaar ka bhoot sawaar hai."
Dhruv smirked, his eyes twinkling as he looked at Ishita. "Kya karein? Tum ho hi itni special."
Ishita rolled her eyes, but her smile gave her away. "Thik hai, bas paanch minute ke liye break leti hoon. Phir mujhe kaam karne dena, theek hai?"
Dhruv nodded, looking victorious. "Deal."
As Ishita closed her laptop and stretched, Dhruv watched her with a soft smile, feeling grateful for moments like these. Rinku sat down next to them, grinning.
“Bhai, Ishita di ko tang karne se better idea hai,” Rinku said, looking serious for a moment.
Dhruv raised an eyebrow. “Kya?”
“Unke saath help kar le. Shaayad usse impress ho jaaye,” Rinku said, bursting into laughter.
Ishita joined in, laughing along with Rinku, while Dhruv just shook his head, smiling. These were the moments he cherished—the laughter, the teasing, and the feeling that everything was just right.
