IT WAS COMPLETELY SILENT AS THE TWO TELLER WOMEN STARED AT EACH OTHER. Naomi could feel her mother's eyes on her, sizing her up in a way. She suddenly felt like a teenager again, cowering under Gemma's tough gaze."Well, are you going to invite me in?" Gemma's voice sounded like a mix of bored and annoyed as the SAMCRO matriarch tossed her cigarette to the ground.
Everything in Naomi's body was screaming at her to just close the door in her mother's face. Gemma didn't deserve to be welcomed inside with open arms, but the Galindo woman knew that she would cause bigger problems if she did so.
"Come in." Naomi's tone held heavy reluctance in it as she stepped aside to allow Gemma in.
Naomi knew she had to keep her guard up around Gemma, her mother was like a bloodhound and could smell any sort of weakness. Especially when it came to her children.
A low whistle left Gemma's lips as she pushed her sunglasses on top of her head, her eyes wandering around the rental home.
"I guess being a big hot shot lawyer is good for your bank account." Gemma smirked. "Unless this is all hubby's money."
The blonde had to refrain from rolling her eyes at Gemma's words. "What do you want?" Naomi wasn't going to give her the satisfaction that she knew Gemma wanted so badly.
A scoff left Gemma's lips at her daughter's question. It had been years since she last saw her only daughter, and her she was acting like she couldn't even be bothered to see her.
"Well, I thought with Luann's death you'd want your mother around. I know how close you two were, but it seems I'm wrong as usual to you." The older woman shook her head as a frown formed on her face.
A sigh left Naomi's lips, she wasn't going to fall for her mother's fake concern. This was a typical Gemma move. It was sickening to Naomi that her mother still tried to pull this move even after so many years, but Gemma Teller—Morrow would be who she was if she didn't have a few cunning moves up her sleeve.
"I don't have time for your games, mom. I have to finish getting ready for Luann's wake." Naomi crossed her arms as she stared at Gemma, waiting for her to get the hint and leave.
"Games?" Gemma spat her voice full of fake sadness. "Naomi, you are my only daughter and I haven't seen you in years! You don't even let me see my god damn grandchildren! Do you know how that makes me feel? Do you really think I'm such a monster that I can't see my grandchildren?" A few tears fell from Gemma's eyes as she spoke.
A small, annoyed laugh fell from Naomi's lips. Of course this was about her children. All of their recent arguments always came to this. Gemma wanted to meet her grandchild, no doubt in Naomi's mind so that her mother could manipulate their minds as well.
"I don't have time for this." Naomi shook her head, annoyed by her mother's fake tears.
She wanted to laugh in her mother's face and tell her that just because she was her children's grandmother it didn't mean that she was allowed access to her children. It's a privilege not a right.
The tears from Gemma's watery eyes stopped almost immediately once she knew that Naomi wasn't going to give into her sad act.
"I think it's best if you remember where you came from, Naomi. Family is everything to me, and I will see my grandchildren." Gemma threatened, placing her sunglasses back onto her face, smirking as she walked by Naomi and out the door.
Naomi watched her mother leave, not at all surprised by her threat. It was another typical Gemma power move. The blonde shook her head before grabbing her cell phone and checking in on Emily to make sure everything was still alright in Santo Padre.
LUANN'S WAKE WENT AS EXPECTED — AT LEAST NAOMI THOUGHT SO. Otto had clung to her the moment she stepped inside the funeral home. Naomi had always been close to the big Delaney man — she always wished Luann and Otto had been her parents instead of Gemma and Clay.
While everyone has been welcoming to Naomi and Miguel; Clay barely acknowledged her presence. It didn't surprise her one bit that the man who called himself her 'father' didn't even say hello to her. Clay liked playing the doting father act, but hated actually being a father.
"Are you alright, amor?" Miguel's soft voice broke Naomi from her thoughts as he placed a hand on her arm. He knew the wake had been difficult for his wife.
Naomi simply nodded, placing a small sad smile on her lips. She had been staying strong for hours, not wanting anyone to see her cry and she was certain if she opened her mouth then all the tears she had been holding in would follow too.
"It feels so final now." The blonde spoke in a small voice. "I mean, I know it's final, but it just feels it now." She wasn't sure if she was making any sense to Miguel, but she didn't care.
Miguel quickly wrapped his arms around his wife, placing a kiss on her temple. He hated how sad his wife sounded and would do anything to take her sadness away, but unfortunately he couldn't.
"Luann was like a mother to me. Who am I suppose to talk to now? I miss her so much." The tears finally fell from her blue eyes. "I don't have a mother anymore." She sobbed, placing a shaky hand over her mouth, hoping to quiet the sobs from her lips.
Miguel pulled Naomi closer to his body, running a hand through her hair and soothing her. He hated seeing his wife like this. It wasn't often Naomi got so emotional. Hell, Miguel had only seen her this emotional a handful of times since they'd been together.
"It's okay, baby." Miguel promised as he held onto her body tightly, doing his best to comfort his wife.
