Xavier's POV

It has now been a couple of days since we left the animal army base. I was watching the three people in front of me and shook my head as Gus was making Jepperd and Bear laugh, a soft smile forming as I saw her warming up to the little deer. I wanted to spend time with my mate, but I doubted anyone wanted a freak plus it had always been hard just to open up enough to crack a joke the first time. I watched as the three of them were bonding and I kept to the back to enjoy the scene. It was nice to see that Gus was making friends with other people then again, he was always the more social of the two of us.

I was getting lost in thought until I heard my name. "Xavier!" Gus called as he ran back to me looking annoyed as I raised a brow. I looked up when I saw that Bear and Jepperd were arguing about something along with some purple flowers ahead of us. "Now what are those two fighting about?" I asked him as I lifted him up and walked up to the two. "I'm not going on that bridge. Neither is Sweetooth." Jepperd snapped as I raised a brow, holding a growl back at the tone but then got amused at her reaction. "We can't go through the field, and we can't go around, or we are going to miss the train. We need to go over the bridge." She snapped back at him while she glanced over at us. I raised a brow, glancing up as I looked at the bridge, studying every little bit.

"That bridge is going to snap if we walk over that bridge. I am not risking that and if we fall, we are going to die." Jepperd snapped while she scoffed at him and shook her head. "It might snap with you or gigantor but it will be fine for me and Gus." She said with a mocking tone. I felt Gus jump off my shoulders and watched as he ran. "Stop it!" He called out as he stood at the top of the bridge, getting ready to cross. My muscles tensed as I glance at the field of flowers and watched the two humans run up to the bridge. I kept my gaze locked on Gus as he began to cross, stopping halfway as I looked at him. "Gus get back here. Gus!" I heard as I kept my gaze on the rickety bridge as my brother looked at the two normals. "I won't go back until you promise to stop fighting." He said as he looked at them with a stern expression while the two of them looked conflicted.

I saw him take another step back and keep a stern look on his face making them both quickly agree. "We'll stop fighting. We'll stop fighting so get your ass back over there." Jepperd said as he and Bear looked like they were about to snap at each other any second. I raised a brow as I saw him about to take a step forward, a snap being heard as he began to fall. I looked up at him and ran as I shifted to get him faster. I got there just in time and while Jepperd and Bear tried to get to the other side, I caught him and ran to the other side. My gaze was going hazy as I made it to the other side while Gus was mumbling. I fall to the ground as Jepperd goes to Gus while Bear made a run for me and kneeled down beside me.

"Xavier, hey alpha wake up," was the last thing I heard before my eyes fluttered shut and the darkness took over.

Bear's POV

I shook Xavier as his eyes shut and his head lulled to the side. "Xavier." I called as I tried to shake him awake. I heard Jepperd with Gus but for some reason I couldn't bring myself to leave Xavier's side. I carefully moved Xaviers head onto my lap and ran my fingers through his hair. I could see a scar on his face and watched him with a frown as he seemed to have a nightmare, a whimper leaving his mouth as he shook his head violently with claws being extended. I continued to run my fingers through his hair as I soothed him, carefully taking one of his hands as I noticed him begin to calm down.

I glanced over at Gus and saw that he was shifting around as well but not as violently. I could see the pure fear that was beginning to show on Xavier's face as he shifted, and I wrapped my arms around his head to bring him close as I followed my instincts to help him in some way. I could hear him whimper loudly as he seemed to grip onto me almost desperately to anchor himself. I didn't know why he seemed to be so soothed by my presence, but the strangest thing was the urge to help him when the two of us had spent little time together or getting to know each other. I held Xavier against my body, feeling his body begin to relax as his muscles finally relaxed once his claws began to go back to normal. I lifted my head as I noticed that his eyes began to flutter, and he groaned as his eyes began to open showing his wolf eyes. He slowly began to sit up and I moved with him so I could be there to support him.
