The putrid humidity hides a tide of illness that has yet to reach our floor. By dinner we learn eleven prisoners died in their cells today. Alone. Without rites. We hear their bodies thump and splash as they're hurled into a pit somewhere outside the prison. I wonder if death by dehydration is better than a noose. Quicker, surely, but not nearly as painful.
