HQ really cannot get weirder.
I'm running along a corridor, being chased by a hissing, snapping rug. I splutter some very unladylike words as it tries to bite my ankles, hissing angrily.
I can't decide whether to laugh or cry, so I settle on both.
"What the hell-" I gasp, sprinting for my life.
The rug snaps at me in response.
"OI, DONT YOU BITE ME-"
"Lady Reii, what's going on?" Petal cries, throwing open a door. I jump about a foot in the air, so does the rug, releasing a huge cloud of dust into the air.
"Petal- The rug- Trying to eat me-" I gasp for breath, doubling over. Running in heels is exhausting, how Akari and Kishiko does it full time is a wonder.
"Oh dear, oh dear, what am I going to do with you?" Petal scolds the rug, which lets out a meek MEEP And scurries away.
"Are you okay?" Petal asks.
"Yep... Fine." I say, still breathy from all the running.
"Well, come in, I assume Lady Akari told you I was in the library?" He gives a disapproving look. "She shouldn't have told you to take the corridors, the carpet here has a curse on it."
"Oh... Okay." I say, following Petal inside, noting that he can fly apparently. I didn't realize, he has no wings. Probably more magic.
"I have been working on a wand for you, Lady Reii." He says. "Of course, you must first connect with it, or it won't respond."
I nod, like I have any idea what that means, and gaze down at the wand. It's pink (Of course it is) And has little flower charms hanging off it. Upon closer inspection, they are cherry blossoms.
Of course.
"Now, say your incantation." He instructs.
"Er... Sorry, my what?"
"Incantation, dear- Oh, I forgot, how very silly of me!" He hands me a note, which has elegant script on it, and glows a faint pink when I touch it.
Please speak aloud the words: Sakura flower power!
"Uhm..."
"Aloud please Reii."
"Say this...? "
"Yes please. Not the first sentence, the second one if you will."
"I-"
"Yes?"
"You want me to say 'Sakura flower power...?'"
"Yes." Petal says expectantly.
"Why? "
...
Petal keeps making me say it.
"For the last time, with conviction Reii!"
"What does that even mean?" I say, frustrated. "Why isn't it working?" I prod the wand with a finger. "Is it broken?"
"Just say it!"
"Sakura flower power!" I yell, and aim the wand at a target hanging on the wall.
...
The targets blows softly in the wind, completely unharmed. I drop the wand and scramble around trying to pick it up, only to have the darn thing shoot away across the floor in a blast of pink sparks.
"I give up." Petal groans, burying his face in his paws.
"Same." I snap. "Can't I just have a sword or something-?"
"No! It cant be anything else." Petal snaps back. "This is what your spiritual energy is channeled through, you must use a wand! "
"That's stupid, I can't even hold it-"
"Well too bad, because you must learn!" Petal says, slightly hysterically. "I will teach you if it's the last thing I'll do, and you will take the wand! "
...
It's lunchtime, and both me and Petal show up at the training center, disgruntled, tired, and decidedly wandless.
"Hey! Petal, Reii, over here!" Akari yells, from a grassy area next to a small lake. There's a large checkered picnic blanket spread out across it, and the others are sitting there, waiting for us.
"How'd the wand thing go?" Kishiko asks, once we've both sat down.
"Err..." I say.
"I have made the wand, and Reii is certainly talented." Petal says stiffly. "But-"
"Oh that's good." Akari says with a grin. "She is special, huh?"
"That is, if our Princess shows any signs of improvement at all..." Petal mutters.
"Petal! " I cry, outraged.
"Oh, do not give me that look!" Petal says huffily as both Akari and Yuki turn to glare at him. "It's the truth, and if you'll excuse me, I have a angry carpet situation to deal with!" He gets up and flounces out of the center.
...
There's silence.
"You dropped crumbs on the carpet, didn't you?" Akari says finally.
I slump down onto the table and groan.
