An untouched piece of strawberry cake sits before me, daintily frosted with pink icing and decorated with small, delicate pink rosebuds.

A symphony of forks clinking against fine china greets my ears, and even though Petal says that this is now my 'second home', I am afraid to touch anything. Even my own cake.

Kishiko, the girl sitting to my left, gently nudges me. "Hey, Sakura, are you okay?" She asks, her warm brown eyes filled with concern. My edginess must have crept up on my face.

I don't have the heart to tell her she got my fake name wrong.

"Yeah. I'm okay." I say quietly, still staring down at my cake like it'll run away the moment I take my eyes off it. Kishiko doesn't seem fooled, but after a few minutes of silence she accepts I want to be left alone and gives me a pat on the shoulder, and a quiet whisper of 'Don't worry, everything's fine.' As if I would believe her.

Petal, sitting at the head of the table, claps his paws together, and announces:

"Ladies, if you have noticed, we have a new addition to the magic squad!"

Oh no.

Please no.

"Please welcome Lady Sakurako!"

Eyes turn to me. Everyone is staring.

My breath quickens. The world starts to blur around the edges, the other girl's faces becoming distorted. Suddenly, I'm not at the warm, brightly lit room in magic HQ anymore, I'm in the noisy, overcrowded cafeteria. The girl sitting next to me is not Kishiko, but Amelia.

My breathing quickens. The warm lights seem to flicker, and the sweet smell of the strawberry cake becomes cloying and suffocating. The poofy pink dress I'm in feels like it's swallowing me alive, I can't breathe-

"I can't do this-" I gasp, standing up abruptly, and turning on my heels, I run out of the room.

...

What are they going to do to me?

Take away my magic? Kick me out? Kill me and use me as a martyr like poor Princess Sakura?

I'm so sorry. I've stolen her place. I'm an imposter. This isn't right.

This is what happens when you deny fate, see what happened to little Reilynn? Don't try to run, it'll never work...

I start to cry. I'll never see my mom again; they'll kill me and maybe her too...

"Reii?"

Huh...?

"Reii? Where are you? Come back, please!"

Thats... Kishiko.

"Reii! I promise, we won't hurt you!" Another voice calls out.

And Akari.

"Y-yeah! We won't!"

Yuki.

They... Called me Reii.

I leap up from beneath the painting of Sakura, beaming from ear to ear. They actually care.

I can't believe it.

This isn't like school after all.

I wipe the tears off my cheeks and call out to them.

"Guys! Over here guys!" I cry out. The sound of footsteps patter towards me, and the doors are opened by a small blast of violet flame, and a darting blue water ball lands on it and extinguishes the purple fire. Kishiko, Akari, and Yuki peer inside, all with varying expressions of anxiousness, and in Akari's case, exasperation.

"Reii, you could've told us you felt pressured." She says, wrinkling up her nose and rolling her eyes playfully at me when she sees my smile. Then she freezes.

"What?" I ask.

"Omigosh your hair, it's pink. That looks amazing on you by the way, makes your eyes really stand out-..." Yuki blabbers, flushing a bright shade of scarlet when Akari stares at her with a shocked expression.

"I have never heard you speak that much before." She mumbles. "Where did that come from?"

"Huh? Really...?" I ask, grabbing one of my ponytails and looking at it. Oh, Yuki is right. My hair is completely pink, the same color as a cherry blossom. But wait...

I look behind me at the portrait. And then back at my hair. And then back to the portrait.

Oh.

Oh.

What the heck?!
